Disney4me
Sometimes, it feels like there’s no end to the changes coming to Magic Kingdom! Frontierland Shootin’ Arcade And we’re not even talking about things like Villains Land or the two Cars attractions coming to Frontierland. No, for this one, let’s talk about the new lounge for Disney Vacation Club members and break it all down! We heard a while back that Frontierland’s Shootin’ Arcade would close and become a new lounge for DVC members. Since then, we’ve been watching the construction site like hawks to glean what info we could on how it’ll look. Frontierland Shootin’ Arcade is behind walls now What we do know about it is that its name is McKim’s Mile House, and it will be open by the summer of 2025. The name of the lounge is actually a two-part reference. The first part is most likely a reference to Disney Legend Sam McKim, who designed the Disneyland souvenir maps issued between 1958 and 1964. ©Disney The second half of the lounge’s name, “Mile House,” was a term they used back during the Gold Rush to help mark a building that was a mile from some important destination. Examples of mile houses include stagecoach stops and places for refreshments. ©BC Archives Disney has shared a sneak peek of what the lounge will look like. At first glance, we can see lots of wood decor, frontier-inspired art, and a large fireplace. ©Disney Now, let’s dive deeper. First up, can we say that the theming looks to be TOTALLY on point. Even the lighting in this area looks like it would have been period-accurate. ©Disney In the upper left of the concept art, we can see a saddle and horse blankets, which would have been what a road-weary traveler would’ve brought into the mile house with them for an overnight stay. ©Disney Moving to the right, we can see a stuffed animal. Perhaps a young child will be a part of the backstory for this lounge. ©Disney Next, we find even more touches that indicate this is a mile house that sees a lot of different types of travelers, as indicated by the canteen, luggage, and towels. ©Disney I wonder if this portrait on the upper left would be of an older Sam McKim. Maybe he would be the proprietor of this establishment. ©Disney Perhaps that train is a nod to Walt’s love for trains. Also, maybe this portrait of a mile house is the proprietor’s original mile house. ©Disney We can see nods to Jessie from Toy Story and Big Al of the Country Bear Jamboree. ©Disney Well, those were just a couple of the things we picked up from the concept art, and I’m sure there are a whole lot more clues hidden for us to find!
