Thanksgiving week is one of the busiest travel weeks of the year.

More than 50,000 flights alone were expected this past Tuesday, with more happening later in the week, particularly AFTER the holiday as folks fly home from their travel destinations like Disney World. The TSA even recently shared a warning and some preparation tips about flying this week. However, you could still run into some problems at Orlando International Airport if you’re flying today: multiple flight delays have been reported.

According to FlightAware, 93 flights are currently delayed at Orlando International Airport, with one flight being canceled. It seems that almost every airline is affected, although it seems Southwest currently has the most delays, followed by Delta and Spirit.

Many of these delays seem to be in areas that have been recently hit with wintry weather. According to Accuweather, a major lake-effect snow event has stopped travel around the Great Lakes area. Snowfall reports spanning from northeast Ohio, northwest Pennsylvania, and southwest New York have ranged from 12 to 24 inches, with almost three feet reported in Erie, Pennsylvania. These areas have had numerous road closures. Airports in this region have also been affected, which is resulting in delays across the U.S.

People heading home from Thanksgiving travel will further complicate the issue, especially as the weather continues to disrupt flights. In looking at the origin airport of flights delayed at Orlando International Airport, several affected destinations seem to be having problems, including Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, and New York. Note that any delays anywhere could cause delays in areas not affected by the weather, as flights get backed up.

If you are flying today, be sure to stay updated on your flight’s status. You can do this by making sure you have notifications enabled from your airline, as well as keeping an eye on your airline’s app. It’s also a good day to practice your patience if you’ll be spending some time at the airport. Grab a snack, tuck into a good book, movie, or show, and stay updated on your flight’s status.
