The Disney refurbishment list is still growing.

January 6th is shaping up to be quite a day at Disney World. We already know that the first Monday in January will see the closure of not one but two of the resort’s more popular people-eating attractions. The Magic Kingdom’s Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is closing for a refurbishment that is scheduled to last AT LEAST a year, with a reopening date of sometime in 2026. Next, Animal Kingdom’s Kali River Rapids attraction is closing for its annual winter refurbishment, with a scheduled reopening date of March 2025. Now, we know we can add another attraction to that list.

As Disney confirmed in mid-December 2024, the Gran Fiesta Tour will ALSO be closing for refurbishment on January 6th, 2025. According to Disney, the EPCOT attraction will be closed for just over two months, with a scheduled reopening date on March 15th, 2025.

While the Gran Fiesta Tour isn’t usually thought of as a headlining attraction at EPCOT, it is one of only three rides in the park’s World Showcase area, and its closure could put even more strain on the popular Frozen Ever After and Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure attractions located in Norway and France respectively.

The attraction, which Disney describes as a “gentle cruise down the Rio Grande on a dark boat ride past some of the most famous sights and cities in Mexico” featuring the Three Caballeros, technically opened at EPCOT in 2007. However, the essential core of the attraction located in the park’s Mexico Pavilion has existed at the park since it opened as El Rio del Tiempo on opening day in 1982.
