Disney World is known for its over-the-top treats, but when it comes to cake slices, we found a few that are downright controversial – both in terms of price and experience. We decided to hit up some of Disney World’s most popular spots to see if these high-priced desserts are worth the hype. From jaw-dropping designs to flavor-packed layers, here’s the lowdown on the cakes we tried.

Millionaire Cake at The Cake Bake Shop – $22.99 per slice

If you’ve ever dreamed of indulging in a millionaire’s lifestyle, or at least their dessert, The Cake Bake Shop has you covered with its Millionaire Cake. This towering slice is made up of rich chocolate cake layers paired with decadent chocolate ganache, creamy caramel, buttercream frosting, and a sprinkling of shortbread crumbs.

Millionaire’s Cake

This isn’t just a cake. It’s a full sensory experience. Each bite is soft, luscious, and practically melts in your mouth. Plus, the exterior is coated in milk chocolate and drizzled with caramel, adding a satisfying crunch from the shortbread crumbs on top.

Delicious!

While the $22.99 price tag is steep, we’d be lying if we said it wasn’t worth it. The flavors were incredible, and the quality of ingredients really shone through. Would we buy it again? For special occasions, absolutely. But it’s definitely not an every-visit kind of splurge.

Andes Mint Cookies & Cream Cake at Gideon’s Bakehouse – $9 per slice ($68 for the whole cake)

Gideon’s Bakehouse is already famous for its cookies, but did you know they also serve jaw-dropping cake slices? On our visit, the rotating daily flavor was Andes Mint Cookies & Cream, and naturally, we couldn’t resist.

This cake is an absolute beast. The layers are drenched in minty, cookies-and-cream frosting that’s as thick as the cake itself (a frosting-to-cake ratio we can respect). The outside is coated with chopped Andes Mints, giving it a cool, minty finish that balances the richness of the chocolate cake perfectly.

At just $9 a slice, this cake feels like a steal compared to some of the other pricey options on our list. It’s fresh, indulgent, and ideal for anyone who loves the combination of chocolate and mint. And if you’re feeling bold, you can order the entire cake for $68, though we think a single slice is plenty for most people!

Toy Soldier Mickey Dome Cake at Amorette’s Patisserie – $67

At Amorette’s Patisserie, we took things to the next level with the Toy Soldier Mickey Dome Cake. This seasonal specialty (available through December 31, 2024) is a sight to behold. Decked out with intricate holiday-themed chocolate decorations, this cake is a true work of art.

But let’s talk flavor. Inside, you’ll find layers of chocolate chiffon, milk chocolate mousse, and coconut-pecan filling. It’s essentially a glorified German chocolate cake wrapped in a fluffy mousse exterior. The texture was light and airy, but the flavor packed a sugary punch.

Plenty of sugary bites

While the $67 price tag is pretty shocking, this cake is meant to be shared. It serves 8 to 10 people. We loved the festive design and flavors, but the high cost makes it more of a special-occasion indulgence. If you’re hosting a holiday party and want something unique and Instagram-worthy, this could be the splurge for you.

Honorable Mention: The Kitchen Sink at The Kitchen Restaurant – $48

Okay, so technically this one isn’t a Disney World cake. It’s served at The Kitchen Restaurant in Universal Orlando’s Hard Rock Hotel. But we had to include it because, wow, what a dessert! The Kitchen Sink is seven layers of indulgence, featuring brownie, peanut butter crème, chocolate chunk cookie, red velvet, vanilla cheesecake, devil’s food chocolate cake, and vanilla chiffon, all topped with ice cream, chocolate sauce, and strawberries.

The Kitchen Sink

This behemoth of a dessert is best shared with a group of 4-6 people. It’s simply too much for one person to handle. The flavors are bold and varied, with each layer offering something different. It’s served cold, which made the brownie layer a bit tough, but overall, it’s a fun and delicious challenge. Just be prepared for a mess when cutting into it!

Bite of the cake

So, are these pricey cakes worth it? Well, if you’re a dessert enthusiast or celebrating a special occasion, the Millionaire Cake at The Cake Bake Shop and the seasonal dome cake at Amorette’s Patisserie are excellent splurges. For a more budget-friendly indulgence, Gideon’s Bakehouse delivers big flavor at a fraction of the cost.
