Welcome to Tiana’s Palace, where you’ll find all sorts of southern eats and treats — and right now, you can get a King Cake! King Cakes come around to celebrate the New Year in several different cultures, but a New Orleans King Cake is a pastry typically made with cinnamon dough, covered in icing, and decorated with purple, green, and gold sprinkles. You can get the one available at Tiana’s Palace for $7.95.

King Cake from Tiana’s Palace

Much like holiday fruitcakes, King Cakes can vary wildly and we’ve seen King Cakes pop up around Disney parks before — so we were interested to see how this one stacked up.

Unfortunately, this dessert was just okay. It was essentially a cake donut with vanilla frosting and a brown sugar-flavored filling. While we enjoyed all the flavors, the texture of the cake was pretty dry which made it harder to enjoy. The filling had a bit of a crunch to it with a sweet brown sugar flavor, which helped a bit with the dryness — but not enough. The frosting was a sweet vanilla flavor and we got a bit of a lavender and lemony flavors from the sprinkles that paired nicely with the vanilla. If the cake was moist or a bit fresher we could see ourselves enjoying it more.

It was a bit on the dry side

If you’re a King Cake connoisseur, you might not find this one too enjoyable — especially considering it was missing the tiny little baby that’s supposed to be inside (it represents good luck!) We do love the portability and the fact that it’s also shareable. If you’re able to snag a fresh version, it’s worth a try, but overall this treat was a bit of a letdown for us this time around.

In the meantime, we’ll be on the lookout for the latest updates from Disneyland, Disney World, and more, so make sure you stay tuned to the Disney Food Blog for more news!
