Recommended Posts

Well, we’ve got some good news and bad news about snacks in Disney World.

So the good news, the controversial Red Dye No. 3 is being banned from all foods and drinks in the U.S. Food and drink manufacturers have until 2027 to find an alternative to the food coloring additive. But how does that impact Disney World? Well, we went on a special fact-finding mission just to see how many Disney snacks are affected. Y’all — it is WAY more than we realized. A lot of Disney foods contain Red Dye No. 3.

Planning guide for the ultimate Disney vacation

We’ve got a complete breakdown of Disney foods that contain this controversial ingredient that might either get banned or have to be reformulated in the near future. We started our research at Main Street Confectionery in Magic Kingdom, where you can get a lot of pre-packaged candy, which often contains Red Dye No. 3. We worked our way around the parks from there. Y’all — we found SO MANY items that listed it as an ingredient, including those giant lollipops that kids love.

You can see it here on the ingredients list of a Disney Princesses lollipop.

We found plenty of other pre-packaged snacks with Red Dye No. 3 listed as an ingredient, including Sour Taffy

Minnie lollipops, too

Pretty much all of the lollipops we checked had Red Dye No. 3 listed as an ingredient.

That also goes for most of the pre-packaged candy, as Red Dye No. 3 is used to give candy a bright cherry-like red color.

But that’s not all, because we also learned that the Mickey Vanilla Cupcake that you can find in many of Disney World’s hotel quick service locations also has Red Dye No. 3 in both the buttercream frosting and in the sprinkles.

Even the cupcake has it

So what does this mean? Well, Disney does have until 2027 to either get rid of these products or change their formulations. It’s likely we’ll see Red Dye No. 3 slowly get phased out throughout the parks over the course of the next years. If it’s something you’re concerned about, though, make sure to check those ingredients lists on each product first!

We are happy to report that candy apples, decorated caramel apples, Rice Krispies, M&Ms, and Skittles do not contain Red Dye No. 3, so those snacks will not be affected by the ban on the additive. Whew!
