Something wickedly good is coming to Magic Kingdom!

At the D23 Disney fan convention in 2024, we got the announcement that a new Villains Land would be coming to Magic Kingdom! Ever since we cannot stop thinking about the potential of this area. With only one piece of concept art so far, fans are concerned that some of the elements might not come to life.

Planning guide for the ultimate Disney vacation

Disney has shared “Guests will be able to venture Beyond Big Thunder Mountain into an all-new land dedicated to Disney Villains. Inspired by the wicked characters fans know and loathe, the multi-acre expansion will include two major attractions, plus dining and shopping. Walt Disney Imagineering is pushing creative boundaries to dark and mysterious levels to bring this new, first-of-its-kind land to life.” These are so big ideas so let’s dive into the concept art.

Will It Have a Real Outdoor Rollercoaster?

Disney hasn’t shared details on what attractions will be coming to the new area, but the concept art reveals some roller coaster-like elements. When the concept art was released, we immediately noticed what appeared to be tall roller coaster tracks.

This section is decorated with thorns and looks like it will feature some sharp curves…and maybe an inversion? These tracks make us think that this coaster could be on a large scale and it is making us excited. However, right now the concept art is the only detail we have so fans are unsure if a large coaster of this scale will come to life.

Will We Have a Ride That Goes Over Water?

From the concept art, the best we can gather is that this area is some sort of a cavern complete with waterfalls. And if we look even closer, it looks like there’s an attraction running through it.

Could this be the same rollercoaster pictured above or is this a different attraction? Fans are wondering if the ride will go over water. This could be different than any ride we’ve really seen at Disney World, especially if this is a coaster that goes over the water.

Can We Expect to See a Large Maleficient Dragon Breath Fire?

From the concept art, you can see a large Maleficient dragon breathing green fire. Magic Kingdom already has something in the realm with the mechanical dragon in the Festival of Fantasy parade who breathes fire.

But this could be similar to the dragon found in the Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Orlando. We would love to see a large-scale Malecifent breathing fire and we could potentially see this being part of the rollercoaster attraction or perhaps close by.

Will We See This Land Be As Detailed as Pandora: World of Avatar?

From the concept art, we see a lot of cliffs and rock formations, and it reminds us of a similar landscape in Pandora: World of Avatar located in Disney’s Animal Kingdom. We know that area is very detailed and well themed so can we really see something like that at Magic Kingdom?

While there are themed lands in Magic Kingdom, we could argue that there is nothing as immersive as what is in Animal Kingdom, but Villains Land could change that. From the water features to the mountains in the background — we’re begging Disney to bring these details to life.

Will There Be Two “Dark” Castles?

From the art, we can see one villain’s castle upon a cliff in the distance. It does lay above the Maleficent dragon and the thorn bushes, so could this be her castle?

That’s not the only one though — in the bottom right of the rendering, we noticed that there appears to be another castle-like building. Could this be another villain’s lair or perhaps even a castle we could dine in? D’Amaro shared at D23 in 2024 that in Villains Land, there would be dining and shopping so this could be one of those buildings.
