Disney4me
Hollywood Studios is full of movie magic, thrilling attractions, and…some truly hilarious guest commentary. Disney’s Hollywood Studios With so many immersive experiences and unexpected surprises around every corner, it’s easy to understand why guests might get a little confused. But some of the things we’ve overheard? Absolute comedy gold. Here are some of the funniest things we’ve heard while wandering around Disney’s Hollywood Studios. “Is this a roller coaster?” If you’ve ever been on Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster, you know that it’s a high-speed, indoor, launch coaster with multiple inversions. You also know that there’s a giant set of speakers blasting Aerosmith into your ears and a shoulder harness locking you into place. Rock on! Which is why it’s so funny when guests, already seated and fully strapped in, turn to the Cast Members and ask, “Wait…is this a roller coaster?” At that point, it’s too late – you’re going from zero to 57 mph in 2.8 seconds, whether you were expecting it or not. “How does the ride vehicle get outside?” About the Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster, this one always makes us chuckle. Guests will often stand outside the attraction, staring at the track section that sits out in front of the show building, and try to figure out exactly how the ride vehicle gets there. Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Some assume it somehow loops back outside, while others try to work out an elaborate track-switching system. The truth? That section of track is just a prop! The actual ride never goes outside – but we love watching people try to crack the case. “Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster doesn’t go upside down.” One of the funniest theme park debates we’ve ever heard was a full-on argument about whether or not Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster actually goes upside down. Get ready to go topsy-turvy One guest insisted it didn’t because they “can’t ride things that go upside down” – despite having ridden it three times already. Their friend, knowing this was incorrect, pulled out their phone, did a quick Google search, and broke the news. Oops. Talk about ruining the magic. Muppets Are Taking Over! Speaking of Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster, in Disney announced that the Muppets will be partnering with some of “music’s biggest stars for a rockin’ music festival” in the coaster’s upcoming re-theme. This likely means that while the Muppets will be the stars of the ride, we can also expect appearances from some major musical artists. ©Disney Looking closely at the artwork, we can see that the concept art suggests a colorful design for the ride vehicle that aligns with the Electric Mayhem’s iconic aesthetic. It even appears that Dr. Teeth’s keyboard is integrated into the vehicle, which would be a fantastic touch! ©Disney Also, it looks like the ride will feature some of our favorite muppets like Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem crew – Animal, Floyd Pepper, Janice, Zoot, and Lips – along with Kermit and Miss Piggy. ©Disney Since the ride will now be set at a music festival, there’s definitely room for more surprise Muppet appearances along the way like Fozzie Bear, Beaker, Dr. Honeydew, and the Swedish Chef. “I’m in the park with the tower ride…you know, the Jurassic Park ride?” Ah, here’s the classic Disney park mix-up. Hollywood Studios has The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror. Universal’s Islands of Adventure has Jurassic Park River Adventure. These are, in fact, two completely different rides, in two completely different parks, owned by two completely different companies. Tower of Terror But that didn’t stop one guest from confidently announcing into their phone that they were at the park with “the Jurassic Park ride” while standing right next to Tower of Terror. Somewhere, their friend was frantically looking for a T. Rex that simply did not exist. “Wait…is this an actual hotel?” For our last one in this post, we come to the Tower of Terror. Oh, the Tower of Terror. One of the most iconic rides in all of Disney World, featuring an eerily abandoned hotel, a creepy backstory, and a drop sequence that has guests screaming in terror (or delight). But we can’t tell you how many times we’ve heard guests ask if there’s a real hotel component to the attraction. Hollywood Tower Hotel No, you cannot book a room at The Hollywood Tower Hotel, but we fully support the idea of Disney turning this into a Tower of Terror-themed resort. Imagine the ambiance, the theming, the ghostly bellhops greeting you at check-in – Disney, make it happen! Fun Facts And before we wrap things up, here are some fun tidbits about Tower of Terror that you might not know! Standing at 199 feet, Tower of Terror is the second tallest attraction in Disney World. It’s just half a foot shorter than Expedition Everest! Any taller, and the FAA would require it to have a blinking red aviation light, which would ruin the illusion of a spooky abandoned hotel. The attraction is packed with references to The Twilight Zone, including the Mystic Seer machine from Nick of Time and Caesar the Dummy from Caesar and Me. Speaking of Caesar, Cast Members make it a habit to greet him daily – because no one wants an angry dummy lurking around! In the pre-show video, keep an eye on the little girl in the elevator – she’s holding a very familiar stuffed mouse! The queue is full of hidden details, but one of our favorites is the mail slots in the check-in area. The letters inside? They’re real notes left by Cast Members for future Cast Members to read and add their own! Imagineers watched every episode of The Twilight Zone (twice!) to make sure they got the details just right. The attraction’s color scheme and Moroccan architectural influences were carefully chosen to blend in with EPCOT’s Morocco Pavilion, because you can see the tower from across World Showcase Lagoon! Tower of Terror Disney Parks are full of memorable moments, and sometimes, those moments come in the form of hilarious guest commentary.
