The China Pavilion is indeed hosting one of this year’s Festival’s Outdoor Kitchens (complete with the fan-favorite Cheesy Crab Wontons). It just has a new name this year: welcome to the Lan Yuan Outdoor Kitchen! Let’s see what else has changed — and remained the same — at this booth as we bring you our complete review… just like we’re doing with every single Outdoor Kitchen at the EPCOT Flower and Garden Festival!

Menu

Lan Yuan brings back a fan-favorite from its years as the Lotus House: House-made Cheesy Crab Wontons! These are joined by the also-returning Pan-fried Vegetable Dumplings and the new Satay Beef Bao Bun.

The beverage menu delivers Mango Bubble Tea and the Brew Hub Honey Jasmine Lager. These are joined by three cocktails: the Dragon Dynasty, the Frozen Lucky Peach, and the Tropical Moon.

And that’s the scoop! With that, let’s dig into the eats and drinks at Lan Yuan!

Eats

The House-made Cheesy Crab Wontons are fried wontons filled with cream cheese, celery, and imitation crab. The wontons are also drizzled with plum-chili sauce, and the serving costs $9.75.

We look forward to this Festival favorite dish each year. Plentiful cheese tucked into a crispy, golden wonton wrapper. What’s not to love? Admittedly, the emphasis is on the cheese over the imitation crab, so seafood lovers might lean towards other dishes at the Festival (like the Seafood Bake at Beach Grub, for instance). But strictly from a flavor perspective, these don’t disappoint.

The Satay Beef Bao Bun is a new arrival this year! It costs $7.75.

Bao Bun

This Bao Bun is filled with pan-fried beef, red onion, and jalapeño in a Chinese satay peanut sauce.

Satay Beef Bao Bun

Given that lineup of ingredients, it may initially be tempting to think that this bao bun would fail on the spicy side. However, we actually found it to be the opposite. The peanut sauce gave the whole bun a sweet taste, which we really enjoyed. The beef was tender, which paired well with the crispy onions, and the bun portion itself was nice and fluffy. Over all, we were fans.

The returning Pan-fried Vegetable Dumplings are filled with bok choy, carrot, shiitake mushroom, ginger, garlic, and sesame. This dish comes in at $5.50.

Pan-fried Vegetable Dumplings

We have no issue with this savory snack from a taste perspective, as these dumplings are light and even refreshing with the tang from the sauce and flavor punch from the red onion; however, we do have a bit of an issue with the price for the small portion size. Two dumplings? That’s a little stingy, right? We have no doubt this will be a popular dish at the Festival, but for two little dumplings, we wish Disney gave us more.

Drinks

There are several drinks to enjoy with your dishes at Lan Yuan, and we’re starting with the non-alcoholic Mango Bubble Tea.

Mango Bubble Tea

It’s up for grabs for $7.75.  The Mango Bubble Tea is quite sweet, and the tapioca boba adds a subtle variation in the texture. Overall, it’s simply a nice refresher on a warm and busy day taking in all of the sights and tastes of the Flower and Garden Festival.

The returning Dragon Dynasty ($14.75) is one of three cocktails on the menu.

Dragon Dynasty

It’s made with Baijiu spirit, light rum, dragon fruit syrup, piña colada mix, and soda water. Cool name aside, last year we found this cocktail to be simply… fine. It’s your typical sweet sip without much strength from the alcohol (despite the presence of Baijiu), but there’s not much about it that stands out. Frankly, it’s overshadowed by the more memorable drinks on the menu.

The Lucky Peach is served up in a new way this year: it’s now the FROZEN Lucky Peach ($14.25)!

Frozen Lucky Peach

The drink still features peach whiskey, peach schnapps, oolong tea, simple syrup, and lemon juice.

We were pleasantly surprised by this drink. Its sweet peach flavor wasn’t overwhelmed by the alcohol ingredients, and it wasn’t overly sweet or syrupy. It was a perfectly crisp drink for a day at the festival.

What makes up the Tropical Moon (available for $14.75)?

Tropical Moon

It’s vodka, triple sec, passion fruit syrup, sparkling water, and white boba pearls. We found the mixture incredibly refreshing, Neither overwhelmingly sweet nor tasting overwhelmingly of alcohol; it actually reminded us of a perfect beach drink.

Beer drinkers may want to try the Brew Hub Honey Jasmine Lager, which costs $5.50 or $9.75.

OVERALL

We pretty much liked everything at Lan Yuan. The returning dishes held up, the new bao bun was quite tasty, and the signature drink options were crisp and refreshing. Would we recommend it as an absolute must-do? Maybe not, but it’s definitely a dependable and solid addition to the festival’s lineup.
