Disney4me
Disney’s Hollywood Studios has been going through some changes lately, and we need to talk about one ride that’s been oddly hanging on. Disney’s Hollywood Studios With major projects like the Muppets Courtyard transformation into a Monsters, Inc. land and Rock ’n’ Roller Coaster’s upcoming re-theme to a Muppets coaster, it seems like Disney is really ready to shake things up at Hollywood Studios. But that leaves us wondering – what about Star Tours? Could it be the next ride to go? Star Tours has always been a bit of an oddity when you think about it. When it first opened back it 1989, it was a groundbreaking motion simulator that let guests experience the world of Star Wars, and guess what? Back then, Galaxy’s Edge wasn’t even a thought. ©Think Disney Disney placed Star Tours in the Echo Lake area of the park, and while it made sense at the time, now it sticks out like a sore thumb. That’s because out of every other Star Wars-related experience in Hollywood Studios, it isn’t part of Galaxy’s Edge – it’s like it’s not even in the same zip code. ©Disney This separation does makes Star Tours feel a little out of place. It also doesn’t help that while Galaxy’s Edge fully immerses guests in the world of Batuu, Star Tours is still hanging on to that classic, pre-Galaxy’s Edge era of Star Wars. In addition to that, Galaxy’s Edge is already home to two major rides – Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run and Rise of the Resistance, which means it’s not like the park is lacking in Star Wars attractions. Millennium Falcon: Smuggler’s Run So what does that mean for the future of Star Tours? Well, it’s hard to say, but with all the changes happening at Hollywood Studios, it wouldn’t be shocking if Disney eventually decided to phase it out. We’ve already seen the park slowly shift its focus, and if Star Tours doesn’t fit with the rest of the park’s vision, it could be on the chopping block. Star Tours Of course, Disney could also choose to update it rather than remove it. Star Tours has already gone through multiple changes over the years, including one in 2024, adding new scenes to keep up with the latest Star Wars movies. With the franchise continuing to grow, it’s always possible that Disney might decide to give the ride another refresh instead of getting rid of it entirely. But is that enough to justify keeping it around if it doesn’t fit in with the rest of the park? ©Disney One of the biggest questions is, “If Star Tours does go away, what would replace it?” Could we see a new IP take over? Maybe an expansion of another popular franchise? At the moment, the Echo Lake area of Hollywood Studios is kind of feeling a little scattered, so it wouldn’t be surprising if Disney had plans to re-theme that entire space, and with the way things are going, anything feels possible. Star Tours in Disney’s Hollywood Studios For now, though, Star Tours is still operating as usual, and Disney hasn’t given any official word on its fate. But if history has taught us anything, it’s that when big changes start happening around a ride, it’s usually a sign that something could be coming. We’ll just have to wait and see what’s in store for this classic attraction. In the meantime, stay tuned to DFB for all the latest from Disney.
