Heads up Disney streaming service subscribers! A couple of long in-the-works rule changes are being fully enforced today, March 24th, across Disney’s streaming platforms, including Disney+ and Hulu.

These changes to the terms of service have actually been live for new subscribers since January 27th, and legacy subscribers have had the option to opt into them through a pop-up window since then. If they didn’t, the changes automatically take effect today, March 24th.

These terms of service changes reflect several things:

First off, it includes new language on Disney’s recently added Pause feature for their streaming services, which allows subscribers to “pause” their subscription for a determined amount of time. According to Disney, the pause will “effect on the first day of your next billing period, and you can continue streaming until then. Once the pause begins, you will not be charged and you will not have access to any content until the pause ends.” When the pre-selected un-pause date is reached, the account will reactivate and a new billing cycle will begin. An account can also be reactivated early through an action on the user’s Disney+ account page.

Beyond the pause feature, the second major clarification is regarding ads. According to the new Terms of Service, due to the increase in the breadth and depth of the content available on Disney’s streamers, “circumstances may require that certain titles and types of content include ads, even in our ‘no ads’ or ‘ad free’ subscription.”

Finally, there are a few smaller, housekeeping-style changes as well:

  • The update adds Hulu’s Terms of Service to the Disney+ page, according to Disney “so that the terms of use for each of our streaming services and bundles are all in one place. “If you don’t have a Hulu subscription, some of these terms may not be relevant to you.”  In addition, future notices may come in a “single, combined email” whether someone subscribes to Disney+, ESPN+, Hulu or some combination of the three.
  • A clarification that the same arbitration agreements apply to Disney+, ESPN+, and Hulu.
  • A reminder that Disney isn’t “responsible for the content or practices of any websites or destinations outside of the Disney+, ESPN+, or Hulu sites, or for third-party ads, materials, products, or services, which may be governed by third-party terms of use.”
