A new nighttime spectacular and long-demanded lounge are coming, two opening-day attractions are going away forever, and one iconic E-Ticket is closed for the whole year! In other words, if you’re heading to Disney World’s original park this year, be prepared!

Here are some of the things you need to know before your visit!

That Big Thunder Mountain is Closed All Year

One of the Magic Kingdom’s most iconic — and popular — E-Ticket attractions, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, is going to be closed for the rest of the year.

The Frontierland staple closed on January 6th for a refurbishment, and according to Disney will be reopening “with a little bit of new magic in 2026.” While we’re excited about the “new magic”, anyone visiting the park this year is going to miss out on the “wildest ride in the wilderness.”

Last Chance to Experience the Rivers of America and Tom Sawyer Island?

Remaining in Frontierland, 2025 will also likely provide the last chance to see two of the park’s opening day staples. Back at the D23 Ultimate Fan Event in August 2024, Disney announced that a new Cars area is coming to the Magic Kingdom land. However, to facilitate the construction, both the Rivers of America and Tom Sawyer Island will be closing, much to the outcry of many fans.

Rivers of America

At the moment, there is no announced closure for the Rivers and Tom Sawyer Island, but given Disney’s pronouncement that work on the area would be “revving into high gear” in 2025, we’d think their time is short.

Coming Coming to Frontierland at Magic Kingdom, a new area themed to Pixar Animation Studios’ “Cars” will leave Radiator Springs and head to the wilderness with two new attractions including an off-road race.

Disney Starlight is Coming

However, there are new things coming to the park as well. Summer 2025 sill see the return of a nighttime parade to the park with the debut of Disney Starlight: Dream the Night Away.

According to Disney, the new parade will combine “nostalgic Disney storytelling and glowing innovation, continuing the legacy of dazzling nighttime entertainment that holds a special place in the hearts of so many” and feature characters from “classic and new Walt Disney Animation Studios films like Peter Pan, Encanto, Frozen, Moana” and more.

Party Like a Pirate

Finally, late 2025 will see the opening of a hotly anticipated new lounge in Adventureland. The Pirates of the Caribbean-themed place promises to expand the story of the fabled attraction, and will “welcome pirates of all ages with a sea-worthy selection of grogs and grub.”
