Disney4me
Technology is constantly changing and updating. Disney World tested the technology in 2021 The latest technology craze seems to be facial recognition. Our phones use it to unlock and approve purchases, Universal’s new Epic Universe theme park uses it to get into the park and unlock lockers, and airports use it to verify your identity. Well, now, facial recognition could be replacing even more of your air travel experience. According to a report by The Times, facial recognition technology could eliminate both check-in and boarding passes for air travel. This process has started to be streamlined, as both check-in and your boarding pass can be obtained and done at home via your airline’s website or mobile app. However, facial recognition technology could eliminate this step in the travel process. Southwest Counter at MCO This has the potential to be the “biggest shake-up in 50 years.” Passengers will be able to upload their passports to their phones and pass through airports with just their faces! The technology is set to debut in two to three years. According to the report, “The International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO), the UN body responsible for policy, is tearing up existing rules for airports and airlines and creating a new ‘digital travel credential’, allowing passport information stored on devices to be used for travel.” Orlando International Airport You can say goodbye to checking in at a check-in desk or on your phone as passengers will instead be able to download a “journey pass” to their phone when they book a flight, and changes will be automatically made if there are any updates made to the booking. Since there will be no check-in, airlines will know a passenger’s intention to fly once their face is scanned at the airport. Orlando International Airport This new update will require the “physical infrastructure at airports to be upgraded so they have facial recognition technology and the ability to read a passport from a mobile device. Crucially, the physical infrastructure will only verify the information — matching face to passport — and not store it, to remove the risk of data breaches.” Passenger details are wiped within 15 seconds of each contact with a ‘touchpoint.’ This new technology will allow passengers to move about the airport without needing to take their phone or passport out.
