We adopted a baby dragon!

But even with as much as we’ve already covered, we still had one more experience that’s exclusive to this neck of Universal’s Epic Universe. If you’ve fallen in love with the baby dragons roaming around Epic Universe, there’s only one place to head when you’re ready to take one home with you!

Throughout all of the Isle of Berk you’ll find several shops to explore but none quite like Toothless’ Treasures. This merchandise store can be found between the meet and greet for Hiccup and Toothless and the Untrainable Dragon show.

Toothless and Hiccup!

Inside you’ll walk in to a whole trove of treasures Toothless, Hiccup, and the Vikings of Berk have collected for you to claim but there’s one particular section of this store set up for you to take home your very own dragon, too!

Congratulations, you’re ready to adopt a dragon! Here’s what we learned from our experience. If you’re worried about getting the exact dragon you’re hoping for, fear not, as the color of the egg will coordinate to the hatching dragon within so you’re saved by selecting the corresponding color of the dragon egg you’re looking to hatch (the Team Members assisting with the adoption are also happy to help you out with this selection, too). During our experience, we found that a popular choice has been a tiny Toothless, which will correspond to a light green egg; however, we chose a Lightfury in a blue egg for this adoption.

Dragon eggs for adoption

For the adoption ceremony, you’ll be asked to raise a hand and recite, “I promise to take care of this dragon like a true Viking.” After you’ve completed the oath, the Viking Team Member will tip your dragon’s egg upside down (because, fun fact– ALL dragons are born upside down), and you’ll give it a warm welcome with a roaring Viking cheer! There may also be a triumphant drum beating as well for dramatic effect. Afterwards, your new baby dragon will emerge from its hatched egg (assisted by the Team Member) and handed over to you for its first cuddles. While you’re enjoying your new baby, the Team Member is busy at work preparing your hatched egg pieces into a carrying case for your dragon to sit in and take in all of Berk as you venture around. They’re also happy to announce your new dragon’s name to everyone around after you name it!

Meet Luna!

This was such a cute and interactive way to “buy” a new souvenir at Epic Universe. Each dragon egg to hatch will cost you $21 before tax and is compatible with eligible Annual Passholder discounts. The Team Members (er, Vikings) in the shop also went out of their way to really get into the adoption process, which helped make adopting a baby dragon less awkward for a solo adult, so we know kids are going to absolutely love this as a whole experience.

Back of the egg

With 5 total dragons to collect, this proves to be a great repeatable experience and makes it an ideal option for someone with multiple kids looking to adopt one for each (that won’t be fought over as soon as you hit the hotel room or car).

We’ll be uncovering lots of tips, tricks, and hidden secrets around Universal’s Epic Universe even before it officially opens, so be sure to stay tuned with us at DFB for all the latest!
