Disney4me
When it comes to dining at Disney World, you’ve got a TON of options. Want something quick and easy? You’ve got it. Something middle of the road and comforting? Yep, that too. And if you’re looking for something upscale and luxurious, you can find that as well. Welcome to Disney World We recently stopped by Backlot Express at Hollywood Studios to see what was cookin’, and now we’re bringing you our FULL review. Is it worth a stop on your next trip to the Most Magical Place on Earth? Find out here! Atmosphere This restaurant is a quick service staple of Hollywood Studios! This backlot-inspired eatery is located in Echo Lake right next to The Indiana Jones Stunt Spectacular and Star Tours. Backlot Express There is tons of covered outdoor seating as well as bar seating for anyone looking to grab lunch or even just take a break during your busy park day. Outside seating Inside, you can also find quite a bit of additional seating and fun decor inspired by movie sets. You might even spot a nod to some extinct attractions and older Disney films. Paint Department’s office The atmosphere is lively and often busy since it’s such a large spot. While the theming isn’t over the top, it’s simple and makes for an open atmosphere. In-door seating! There are tons of details if you’re willing to hunt them down. There really isn’t much to the theming at this quick service! Movie props in the restaurant Inside, you’ll also find a condiment bar along with a self-serve soda machine for easy refills. Serve yourself! But enough about the restaurant — what’s on the menu here?! Menu The menu here is pretty straightforward with American-inspired dishes. There are staples like cheeseburgers, chicken strips, and pulled pork sandwiches, along with some more exciting items like the teriyaki bowl, southwest salad, and Cuban sandwich. Entrees For the drinks, you can find alcoholic beverages like the Rum Island Breed, Frozen Strawberry Daiquiri, Frozen Margarita, and more. They also offer sodas and a Blue Raspberry Frozen Slushy. Alcoholic beverages The kids’ menu offers similar items to the adult menu. You can even get the famous Wookiee Cookie for dessert. Kid’s Meals, Desserts, and Sides And now, onto the main event — the food! Eats First up, we grabbed the Smoked BBQ Pulled Pork Burger, topped with Slow-smoked pulled pork, American cheese, coleslaw, crispy onions, and house-made sweet-and-tangy barbecue sauce, all served with a choice of side for $15.99! The smoked pulled pork burger! This is like having a backyard picnic all in one bite! The pulled pork is good on its own, but we weren’t huge fans of the burger with it. Just the burger The greens underneath reminded us of coleslaw and were a little weird in our opinion. The barbecue, burger, and coleslaw combination is what led us to the backyard taste bud conclusion. While some people might be fans, this wasn’t for us. Inside of the burger Next up, we grabbed the 4-piece Chicken strips for $10.99 with fries as our side. Chicken Strips For those who are curious, you can trade the side of fries for apple slices! These are your traditional Disney World chicken strips, which we adore. These were a bit on the thinner side, but still tasty thanks to the crunchy breading. The inside of the chicken! There are plenty of amazing condiments at this spot to dress these up, but our preferred is the Cheese Sauce for $1! The cheese sauce! This is a cup of liquid gold. You get a huge serving for only $1. It’s warm, savory, saucey, and will forever reign supreme in our book. Toss it on your fries and chicken tenders for the ultimate Disney lunch. A dip! Finally, we grabbed the famous Wookiee Cookie to see if it still holds up. It’s two oatmeal cookies with vanilla cream filling, garnished with a milk chocolate sash on top for $6.99. Think of a bigger version of an oatmeal cream pie! Wookiee Cookie This Chewbacca-inspired treat is so delicious! The cookies are heavy on oatmeal flavor with a bit of a mild, slightly nutty flavor. The icing is nice and fluffy and thankfully not too thick. The chocolate piece is a nice addition, and we’re glad it isn’t super thick. A great snack It’s a solid choice and is thick enough to share! It’s pretty sweet, so be aware before diving in. Drinks To drink, we picked up the Blue Raspberry Slushy for $5.49. The Slush! Honestly, this was pretty mid. It’s one kids will love, but nothing that feels special or unique to this spot. It’s sweet and fruity, but you can get it at several spots around Disney World. There are plenty of other options around the park that are more worth the upgrade than this one. Nosh or Not This Disney World restaurant is a must-visit if… Need a picky-eater-friendly lunch Want easy-to-find seating Are craving a good sweet dessert You should skip this Disney World spot if… Looking for something exciting and unique Want super immersive themeing You want a more relaxing atmosphere Overall Overall, this spot is an easy and convenient spot that will serve up easy dishes that will get you through the day. While they aren’t reinventing the wheel, you can get some theme park classics and a fun dessert at this quick service.
