Disney4me
Being that it’s July – the month we celebrate America’s independence – it’s not surprising to find a little extra red, white, and blue around Disney World these days.Fife and Drum Corps at the American Adventure PavilionFourth of July decorations at the American Adventure PavilionRed, White, and Blue flowers at the American Adventure PavilionAll-American Mickey!Of course, Americans aren’t the only ones who claim these colors in their flag. Among others, our friends in France do, too!French flagsStill, you don’t really expect to see these colors incorporated together in your food, which is why I was so surprised to spot the new Vanilla Macaron Ice Cream Sandwich at L’Artisan des Glaces in Epcot’s France Pavilion, sporting the colors of the French flag!Vanilla Macaron Ice Cream Sandwich signVanilla Macaron Ice Cream Sandwiches in caseI have to applaud the creativity of the chefs who came up with this treat. Check out the incredibly vivid red and blue making up each side of the macaron!Vanilla Macaron Ice Cream Sandwich red side upVanilla Macaron Ice Cream Sandwich blue side upOf course, those colors may make you question the flavor of the macaron surrounding the ice cream – it’s vanilla. Essentially, this is the vanilla version of this treat’s counterpart, the Chocolate Macaron Ice Cream Sandwich. In fact, the vanilla version comes to you in that same French “newspaper†wrapping.Vanilla Macaron Ice Cream Sandwich in French “newspaper”If you’ve enjoyed the housemade ice cream at L’Artisan des Glaces, then you know how very creamy, dense, and decadent it is, and this is certainly true of the rich vanilla ice cream in the center of this sandwich.Vanilla ice cream in centerThe vanilla macaron surrounding the ice cream differs from the one surrounding the chocolate version in that it is a fair bit crunchier than the soft, melt-in-your-mouth texture that I associate with a macaron. While I prefer more traditional texture of the chocolate, the bonus of the difference is that the vanilla sandwich stays together pretty well throughout eating.Texture of the macaronAll in all, it’s another fun and tasty treat from L’Artisans des Glaces! I wonder if this one had some additional takers as guests at Epcot awaited the special Fourth of July version of Illuminations to enjoy a little extra red, white, and blue for the American holiday. But we happily celebrate our friends in France as well… especially since they provide us with so much culinary fun on our trips around World Showcase!Want Even More Epcot Snack Details?Let’s face it: snacks are a big deal during your Disney vacation.
