‘Fjording’ Through Norway with Adventures by Disney

There’s nothing more memorable than a really good catchphrase. For myself, and the 37 other travelers on my Adventures by Disney journey through Norway, there’s one phrase that sprung from our lips daily – “Let’s go fjording!”

And go fjording we did. While technically not considered a word in English (or any other language), “fjording” can loosely be defined as: the act of embarking upon adventure while beholding the beauty of the Norwegian fjords.

A fjord is a long, narrow arm of the sea bordered by steep cliffs that is usually formed by glacial erosion. But, since a picture is worth a thousand words, ta da! This is the Geirangerfjord area, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and is one of the many fjords visited on this adventure.

We hiked the fjords in Flam (and I was photobombed by this sheep along the way).

We set off in a speedboat on a fjord safari through another UNESCO World Heritage Site, Naeroyfjord (and sported some colorful, albeit effectively windproof, neon yellow “fjording” gear).

We slept in rooms with spectacular fjord overlooks, and even used public restrooms that boasted some magnificent sights (a loo with a view). It really brought a whole new meaning to the phrase “when nature calls.”

Above all, we took some time to simply enjoy the incredible beauty the Norwegian fjords provided (and they made for a great selfie).

Clearly you can see why Oxford and Merriam-Webster need to add the term “fjording” to next year’s dictionaries!
