This place rarely churns out a dud, even though the selection is HUGE.Now, I do have to say, I’m quite partial to my favorites: for example, the Frangipane (puff pastry with an almond filling), which I’ve adored ever since I tried it at the Food and Wine Festival’s Parisian Breakfast last  year, and the Brix aux Pommes, which has become a more recent favorite of mine.So sometimes it’s hard to switch gears and choose beyond those. But a goal is a goal and I aim to do my readers proud! To that end, I’d like to show you a few other staples in that bakery case that I haven’t previously showcased on the blog.Welcome back to Les Halles!Les HallesLes HallesWhile there are plenty of savory options at Les Halles (it’s a great spot to grab soup and a sandwich), today we’re focusing on the sweet stuff. Let’s check out a few more French goodies tucked inside!Bakery Case at Les HallesIn fact, the treats we’re checking out today are displayed side by side in there, even though they are quite different from each other. We’re trying the Parfaits aux Fruits and a little something by the name of “Duo.”DuoFirst up, the oddly titled “Duo.” Initial impression? It’s gorgeous. A smooth chocolate dome reflects the light in the bakery case and catches your eye immediately.DuoThe small chocolate topper gives you a hint as to what’s inside, while the almonds circling the bottom add a bit of crunch… and basically just make the whole thing even prettier.DuoDuo earns its name by what’s in the center: both white and dark chocolate mousse, layered over a chocolate cake base.Duo cross sectionThe light mousse layers combine to offer both the sweetness of the white chocolate mixed with the depth of the dark. I like how the just-stiff-enough mousse maintains that dome shape, and the dark chocolate “soft shell†of the dome adds one more layer of decadence.If you’re a chocoholic, this is the perfect three- or four- bite treat for you in the middle (or the beginning…or the end…) of your Epcot day.Parfait aux FruitThis isn’t the “fruit parfait” you get at Starbucks, my friends. The Parfait aux Fruit at Les Halles is yogurt mousse with berries, but it’s taken to another level.Parfait Aux FruitsBright, fresh raspberries, strawberries, and blueberries are accompanied by a sweet berry glaze in the middle to add color and flavor.Parfait aux FruitsThe mousse is substantial, and it won’t feel or taste like “regular yogurt.” Even with the yogurt base, the mousse is sweetened just enough to remove any bitterness of the yogurt while maintaining the tang.Parfait aux FruitsIt’s simple, but delicious, and with the fruit I’d even add “refreshing.”Truth is, I rarely go for the soft desserts when I can have a more substantial pastry. But the parfait does a great job of providing a little something to satisfy a sweet tooth without going overboard. (You know, in case you’re the kind of person who doesn’t LIKE going overboard.)Where the Parfait aux Fruits is a light and airy option, the Duo mousse cake is complete chocolate decadence. These two treats demonstrate just a small bit of the variety to be enjoyed, and do a pretty darn good job of supporting my “there’s something for everyone at Les Halles” theory.
