Disney4me Posted January 16, 2015 Report Share Posted January 16, 2015 I’ve always known that the Tokyo Disney Resort had multiple popcorn flavors, but I really had no idea how serious the popcorn game there was until I saw it for myself. It’s really like its own micro-culture.People bring their collectable & rare resort buckets from the past and have them refilled, some people wear more than one popcorn bucket at a time, and we even had people offering us samples right out of their buckets. It’s seriously SO MUCH FUN!Popcorn is so popular, there’s even popcorn themed merchandise that lists some of the many flavors available. Look at this fun zipper pouch I bought: Delicious Explosion Popcorn!Popcorn Themed Zipper PouchAnother fun popcorn fact? Tokyo Disney has Roastie Toasties just like Disneyland here in Anaheim. Not all of the stands have them, but several do. To see more about Roastie Toasties & Disney Popcorn in the states, check out this great Popcorn Gallery post AJ did a while back. There’s also a fun little video on the Disney Parks Blog here.We made it a goal on our recent trip to Tokyo to try as many types of popcorn that we could. Although we missed a few, we did a pretty good job in our 4 days at the parks. Now, on to the flavors!Let’s start with one that I was a little unsure about but it ended up being my absolute favorite. So much so that we had it twice on our trip! Soy Sauce and Butter. It’s salty, savory and delicious. We found this cart at Tokyo Disneyland park.Soy Sauce & Butter Popcorn CartYou can see that this cart has its own little roastie toastie Christmas Clown; I love that he is dressed for the season. Also, please note that there are different souvenir popcorn buckets at each cart. Some carts sell more than one design, but most carry only one.There are several different seasonal buckets sold throughout the parks, making them really collectable. We noticed that very few people buy the “regular” paper popcorn containers. Most buy the souvenir bucket or bring one from home to refill.I really love that all souvenir popcorn buckets come with a long adjustable clip on strap so you can wear them like a purse. The strap is even long enough to wear cross body, which means hands free! Another fab reason to have a bucket with a strap is the fact that you can easily take your popcorn on attractions. Just close it up and it will be waiting for you after your ride.AND unlike the souvenir popcorn buckets we have here in the states, the lids on these ones seal tightly and STAY closed. The Minnie & Mickey Holiday popcorn bucket you see above was a pretty standard one that I saw all over the parks.Most of the buckets cost 1600 Yen which is equivalent to about $13.36. A few of them are fancier and a little bit pricier. The great thing about these, though, is that a refill costs only 520 Yen ($4.34) and you can bring any TOKYO DISNEY PURCHASED bucket from home for refills on every visit. Regular paper boxes of popcorn (similar to those we have here) cost 310 Yen ($2.59). I think these prices are fabulous!!!AND the popcorn carts?!? Just look at them, they’re all unique; many of them themed to the area in which they reside.Next up, Honey Popcorn featuring a Winnie the Pooh roastie toastie with Piglet as his assistant. I love that Pooh is standing on an upside down “Hunny” pot for a height boost!Honey PopcornHoney was one of the first popcorn flavors that we tried. It’s sweet, but not overly sweet. I remember that Disneyland had honey popcorn for a little while a few years back. It was sold at a cart in between The Hungry Bear restaurant and the Winnie the Pooh attraction. I think I remember it being more of a caramel corn type of “candy” coating though. This one is done by seasoning. It was really tasty, but in the long run, I enjoyed the savory flavors over the sweet ones.The souvenir popcorn bucket available at this cart was of course Winnie the Pooh themed. It was a 1600 Yen bucket, so approximately $13.36 US. This cart smells delicious and is located near the very popular Pooh’s Hunny Hunt attraction. Honey popcorn must be just as popular as the attraction, because there are two honey popcorn carts right next to each other.Next we’ll head over to Tokyo Disney Sea (hopping back and forth in this post) for Salted Popcorn from the Mermaid Lagoon area.Salted PopcornSalted popcorn is just regular popcorn, so we actually skipped purchasing this one. But, I do love love love the adorable Little Mermaid themed cart. This cart sold the Holiday souvenir popcorn bucket featuring Mickey and Minnie as gingerbread cookies. No roastie toastie here, but look at the gorgeous stained glass window and ceramic mosaic pieces inlaid in the cart. The attention to detail at Tokyo Disney Resort is unreal.Over at a very rainy Toon Town in Tokyo Disneyland, we found this fun Caramel Popcorn cart. And look who’s doing the roastie toastie work, it’s Goofy in a very 80’s looking outfit! I love him!Caramel PopcornWe also skipped on trying this one. We figured that caramel is a flavor we have at home, plus the rain was a bit of a deterrent for waiting in line. The caramel corn cart also featured the souvenir holiday bucket.Okay, time for another savory flavor. It’s Curry Popcorn from Tokyo Disneyland. My second favorite flavor! This one is sort of hard to explain. If you like curry even the slightest bit, you will enjoy curry popcorn. It is not as strong as “real” curry sauce, but has more than a hint of flavor. Whatever they use, it’s amazing. How about Big Al as the roastie toastie here??? Isn’t he great?Curry PopcornThere are a few Curry popcorn carts around the resort. We found this one in Westernland near the Country Bear Jamboree theater. It features the glorious “Santa” Little Green Men souvenir bucket. And believe you me, this is the bucket I bought to take home! I’ll share a great photo of it in use at the end of this post. At 2100 YEN ($17.53 US), this bucket was a little on the pricier side, but it’s also one of my favorite new Christmas decorations. Totally worth every penny.Let’s head back to Tokyo Disney Sea for Milk Tea Popcorn! Another flavor we didn’t try, but by the smell of it, it’s another sweet flavor. It smelled exactly like drinking Milk Tea. That makes sense, right? The whole surrounding area had a milk tea aroma. I actually wanted to try this one, but we just didn’t get around to it.Milk Tea PopcornThis cart was located in the Cape Cod area of the American Waterfront (aka all Duffy all the time). It housed the most expensive popcorn bucket, excuse me, basket, that we saw on our trip. Because… Duffy. The milk tea popcorn filled, Duffy adorned basket will set you back 2600 Yen ($21.71 US). I saw TONS of these baskets around the park and also lots of other past Duffy popcorn buckets. Duffy is most definitely a Tokyo Disney VIP. I really thought that this cart should have had a Duffy roastie toastie!We couldn’t resist the small of the Chocolate Popcorn, while walking by it smelled exactly like hot cocoa. And that’s what it tasted like, too! This was obviously one of the sweet flavors. It was pretty rich though. I couldn’t eat more than a few handfuls. Definitely worth a taste. This stand featured another Christmas clown roastie toastie.Chocolate PopcornAs far as the souvenir popcorn bucket goes, I love the cute Minnie hair bow that this cart offered. Randomly the bow bucket is 1640 Yen ($13.69), a whopping 40 Yen (33 cents) more than most of the other buckets… We found this cart in Fantasyland near the Castle Carrousel.Not a fan of milk chocolate? How about White Chocolate? I’m told this was a seasonal flavor for the holidays. There are often seasonal flavors that rotate in and out. We didn’t get a chance to try white chocolate. I couldn’t get anyone in my group on board with this one.White Chocolate PopcornI do love the fun look of this cart. It’s located in Toon Town and offers the cutest souvenir popcorn bucket around. There he is again, Santa LGM!The final popcorn cart photo I have for you is Strawberry Popcorn. Another one we didn’t try. This one by choice because the smell was way too sweet. I’m not a fan of strawberry flavored anything. I LOVE fresh strawberries, but candy, cake, gum, basically anything strawberry “flavored” is not my jam. Although I do love strawberry jam…Strawberry PopcornWe found strawberry popcorn at Tokyo Disney Sea over in the Port Discovery area near Aquatopia. The best thing about this popcorn cart is the Mr. Potato Head popcorn bucket. Isn’t he fabulous? His parts wiggle around so you can change his expression a bit. This is one of the pricier souvenir popcorn buckets. Mr. Potato Head will set you back 2100 Yen ($17.53 US).A flavor that I didn’t get photos of is the Corn Potage (Corn Soup) Popcorn. Luckily though, I was able to try it. We must have looked like we were popcorn enthusiasts, because a nice lady in line for the chocolate popcorn when we were there had a whole tub of it and was like, “Here, Corn Soup! Try it!” I wish I took my photo with her, she was wearing like 3 different popcorn buckets. Popcorn game strong! The corn potage popcorn was really yummy, it tasted exactly like corn chowder.There have been several previous popcorn flavors in the park as well, I’ve heard of coconut (would LOVE to try this one), cranberry, cappuccino, black pepper, banana, apple cinnamon, and I’m sure several more I don’t know about. Currently the seasonal flavor is Orange Marmalade. It came out for the new year soon after we left. According to my friend Abi, it tastes like cough drops.
