Tips from the DFB Guide: Epcot Food and Wine Festival With Kids

Recommended Posts

We are back with today with more great Tips from the DFB Guide to the Epcot Food and Wine Festival!

Epcot Food and Wine Festival Tips

We’ve been taking a look at some of the Touring Strategies featured in the DFB Guide to the Epcot Food and Wine Festival. A while back, we shared our recommended strategy if you only have one day to enjoy the Festival. Today, we’ll take a look at enjoying the Food and Wine Festival as a family — with kiddos in tow.

And don’t forget — when you pre-order the 2015 Guide, you’ll receive the 2014 immediately for free, so you can get started planning right away!

Kick the Day Off Right with Rides

Think that the Food and Wine Festival is just for grown ups? Think again! Although many of the special events are geared toward an adult crowd, this is a theme park, after all! So you can plan to attend the festival with your kids and still have a great time.

If you arrive to the park early, be sure to have your FastPasses for attractions lined up ahead of time. While most of the festival doesn’t really gear up until afternoon (with the exception of Festival Center, which opens at 9:00AM), Futureworld opens when the park does.

So if you arrive bright and early — or if you can take advantage of early Extra Magic Hours — you can get a few rides in before you journey Around the World begins. That way, the kids in your group have already experienced some fun, and will be more likely to spend a few hours checking out the Festival with you.

Look For Learning with a Twist of Fun

But — if you have a child who is interested in cooking, you may want to check out the day’s culinary demonstrations. Children are permitted to attend, but are not served alcohol, obviously.

If your kids don’t want to sit with you, they can hang out at the coloring table in the back.

Speaking of learning, be sure to drop by the Cranberry Bog. We’ve found that the famers manning the Bog are very willing to answer kids’ questions about the Bog itself, how cranberries are grown, etc.

Schedule Kid-Friendly Stops Throughout World Showcase

Once you leave Future World and venture into World Showcase, there’s plenty to do throughout the countries as you Eat and Drink Your Way Around the World. Kidcot Stops offer a chance for kids to work off some creative energy, and cast members who attend the stations are normally very friendly and engaging.

There are also lots of character interaction opportunities, so stopping for a pic and an autograph is always an option. (Don’t forget to get a FastPass for the Character Spot in Future World if your kids are into characters.)

And new for 2015, kids can take part in Remy’s Ratatouille Hide & Squeak Scavenger Hunt around World Showcase.

Get Them Involved with Kid-Friendly Food and Drinks

Finally, at the Food and Wine Marketplace Booths, be on the lookout for special kid-friendly dishes. In the past couple of years, the menus have really expanded to include lots of options geared toward kids.

And don’t forget to grab a Marketplace Passport for kids — gathering stamps from all of the Marketplace Booths is a fun activity for them.
