DFB is welcoming guest author Lori Hope with a review of the PCH Grill. Nestled in Disneyland’s Paradise Pier Hotel, this restaurant serves up breakfast and dinner. Today, we are checking out the bonfire buffet, which debuted this Summer!

Atmosphere

Disney’s PCH Grill at Disneyland’s Paradise Pier has created a delicious Beach Side Bonfire nightly buffet. We usually head to Storytellers Cafe, but we were staying at Paradise Pier and we are always excited to try something new. Paradise Pier is a bit out of the way if you are in the parks, but it is just at the end of Downtown Disney so it isn’t too far.

We made an advance dining reservation, but it was not too crowded when we went. The staff greeted us right away and we had no issues adding another guest to our party.

Eats

The Beach Side Bonfire Buffet provides a nice alternative to the typical Disney buffet food options, with twists on familiar dishes, options to customize, and a wonderful variety for everyone.

When we sat down, the waiter had us pick what kind of wood-fired pizza we wanted. It is included in the price and comes out hot and fresh.

The chef came out and talked to me about my food allergies and was very helpful. He even made me mac and cheese because I couldn’t eat the kind that they offered.

The buffet itself has a few different stations. The salad portion was small, but offered mini plated salads as well as the traditional build your own salad bar.

My son and his friend were able to eat from the taco bar. They preferred the fish taco to the veggie taco, which are both fried but fresh. The toppings are what made them special. You can personalize your taco with sauces and add-ons like avocado aioli and salsas to enhance the flavors.

There is a tasty carving station with baby back ribs and dry-rubbed smoked tri-tip beef. I think I enjoyed that the most. You can add the sauces, which come on the side.

I felt like trying something new, so I got a pickled deviled egg, mostly because it was pink. I took off the pepper, but it was interesting – an unfamiliar taste that worked better than expected. I wouldn’t order it by itself, but I may try it again next time.

Kid favorites like mac ‘n’ cheese, smashed potatoes, cheeseburger sliders, and mini Nathan’s hot dogs are fun for all ages. I really liked the potatoes.

The fried chicken is different than the kind you can get at the Plaza Inn, but I could not have any because of allergies. They offer whole-roasted salmon, and other fish/shellfish items as well. You can have a chef create a one-of-a-kind dish at the seafood sauté station.

Seasonal veggies are served on a stick to carry out the bonfire theme.

My favorite part of a bonfire is s’mores! They have house-made mini marshmallows (vanilla, coconut, and strawberry), plus graham crackers and warm chocolate sauce.

I loved the refreshing haupia pudding. They are in single serving cups with layers of coconut and mango topped with almonds. YUM.

Build-your-own strawberry shortcakes were also a hit. Other dessert options were seasonal berry crisp, cute ice cream cones with cream inside, and chocolate caramel torte with bacon crumbles.

Overall

We all enjoyed the variety of food at this buffet. There is something for everyone. Even if you only order pizzas, the price isn’t bad for a full Disney dinner. They give an annual pass discount, too. Cost is $27.99, $13.99 ages 3 to 9.
