Disney4me
Join us at the The Diamond Horseshoe. Recently guest author, Lori Fries, enjoyed dinner at this iconic spot in the Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World. An all-you-care-to-eat feast will be offered through May 30, 2016. Learn About:Diamond Horseshoe Magic KingdomDisney World Restaurants The Diamond Horseshoe recently re-opened for table-service lunch and dinner in Frontierland. We made an advance dining reservation (ADR) for The Diamond Horseshoe the first day we could. We ate dinner at 3:30PM, so I guess it was more of a late lunch/early dinner. We read one bad review from opening night, but as a local experienced Disney foodie I was excited to try something new. Atmosphere The horseshoe-shaped restaurant looks the same as it has for years. The Diamond Horseshoe Diamond Horseshoe Seating and Stage On the stage sat a beautiful old-time player piano. I was saddened that it was not operational. I asked if there are plans for entertainment but no one knew. The Diamond Horseshoe stage The Stage Eats The Saloon Feast they offer for a main course is a choice of: Barbecue pulled turkey served over cornbread, Spit-roasted ham served with country beans, or Stewed beef served with mashed potatoes. All three choices come with seasonal vegetables. Everyone at the table can order their own meal, and guests can get whichever entrée they want and can try another at any time. Menu Cover Menu Upon arrival, we were seated shortly after checking in. When our drinks came, my lemonade had floaters so I was concerned right away. The cornbread inside the basket was delicious, but the salad, on the other hand, needed some help. Their Frontier Salad – Tossed Greens, Tomatoes, Onion, Roasted Corn, and Cornbread Croutons is served with house-made chipotle-ranch dressing. The dressing was not tasty and the iceberg lettuce was just soaking in it. I think it sat too long. But mostly the dressing just was not good. And the lettuce was very watery to begin with. Salad Corn Bread My ticket was stamped with an allergy note, but the chef never came out. The server said everything was fine. I was a bit skeptical; they didn’t have any fish on the menu, so I just ate with caution. With that in mind, I tried the barbecue turkey. It was topped with jalapeño slices. It sat on top of cornbread. That’s right, more cornbread. I would have liked to have seen it on some other kind of bread or roll. I would have also liked it to come with the sauce on the side. And I like things saucy. The cornbread acted more like a sponge then an accompaniment. The barbecue turkey tasted a lot like the typical Disney parks barbecue pork sandwich that you would get from a quick service restaurant. I gave it a few bites and decided to try something else. I was not very hungry so I asked for mashed potatoes and enjoyed them. BBQ Turkey I did not want to try the ham, but my friends enjoyed it. Ham We asked for the stewed beef for the table with the gravy on the side. I would suggest doing the same in case you don’t like the gravy. Roast Beef and Gravy Roast Beef Close Up My favorite part of any meal is dessert and The Diamond Horseshoe offers two on one plate! Dessert was plated nicely but it was just okay. Frontier Desserts of campfire brownie and apple cranberry tart were nothing special. Desserts Dessert Close Up The price is $33 per adult including soft drink. They did give us a discount with our Tables in Wonderland card. Overview I was hoping for a western saloon show and I would only go back if entertainment was included. They don’t offer anything different for children. No chicken nuggets or mac & cheese. I have eaten many times at Disneyland’s Golden Horseshoe, and hope that the menu changes to be more like that one. What do you think about table service meals at Diamond Horseshoe?
