If you’ve been keeping tabs on the latest offerings in both Disney World and Disneyland, it will come as no surprise that there is no shortage of specialty themed snacks on both coasts in honor of the Beauty and the Beast live action film that is currently tearing up the box office.

Maurice's Treats

Fittingly, one of the spots in Disneyland carrying special treats for the occasion is Maurice’s Treats, located near the entrance to Fantasy Faire. As always, our Disneyland correspondent Heather Sievers was on hand to get us the scoop on the latest themed eats at Maurice’s Treats!

Of course, one could argue that, as Belle’s dear ol’ dad, Maurice is always ready with Beauty and the Beast treats, revolving primarily around a menu of pastry Twists. But our favorite inventor has given the Twists an extra… umm, twist, for a limited time in honor of the film.

Not only is a Grey Stuff Twist up for grabs (alongside the Cheddar Garlic Bagel Twist and Strawberry Rose Twist), but the menu has been further enhanced with DIPPING SAUCES!! Strawberry Rose, Marinara, and a chance to try yet another version of the Grey Stuff are on offer.

One of the beverages here has been likewise enchanted: the Red Rose Lemonade Freeze. (Plus the tasty Boysen Apple Freeze is still available!)

So, “Let’s Twist again” with Heather, by trying all three Twists and Dipping Sauces!

First up: the Cheddar Garlic Bagel Twist. Since this twist is essentially a long, thick bagel, Heather recommends eating it right away to take advantage of maximum softness.

The tasty cheddar flavor is in the forefront (we never say no to those crunchy brown bits), and the garlic, while certainly present, isn’t trying to claw its way to the front. The smattering of sesame seeds on top is also a fun nod to the classic bagel.

Heather ordered the Marinara Dipping Sauce to go along with it. She found it to be your standard marinara, but it did pair well with the Cheddar Garlic Bagel Twist. It’d be great to see these long-awaited sauces stick around beyond the film promotion.

Overall, this is a great snack if you’re in the mood for some savory carbs. (And remember, you can get it in a to-go bag, to make the nosh-and-walk a little easier.)

If you’re in the mood for something sweeter (and when aren’t we?!), Maurice has two more options up his sleeve. Heather — even as a non-strawberry fan — already liked the typical Strawberry Twist available at the cart, and the current Strawberry Rose Twist offers that same fresh, fruity flavor tucked inside the flaky pastry dough. (By the way, if you want to recreate the Strawberry Twist at home, we can show you how!)

Its makeover comes from a drizzle of icing and pink sprinkles, to pump up the Princess factor a notch. Heather, of course, just had to try the new Strawberry Rose Dipping Sauce to go with it.

The rose flavor was subtle with strawberry taking the lead, and a consistency akin to yogurt.

“Certain as the sun,” as the song goes, the Grey Stuff Twist (yep, it’s basically the Chocolate Twist) will be the go-to for the chocolate lovers. You’ll find the same flakey twist as the strawberry version, but between the layers there’s nothing but plenty of dark, rich chocolate.

The Chocolate Twist is always a hit, but the best part about the Grey Stuff Twist right now is that it pairs so well with the Grey Stuff Dipping Sauce.

Oh. Yes. All the cookies-and-cream flavor of The Grey Stuff, only in dip form instead of a mousse. It really does pair perfectly with the Chocolate Twist. But, remember, you can mix-and-match as you choose, so chocolate-dipped-strawberry lovers might even order the Grey Stuff with the Strawberry Twist. The only rule about Grey Stuff is that there are no rules when it comes to Grey Stuff.

Just get it while the gettin’s good!

Not for nothing, if you are in Disneyland and uninterested in waiting up to two hours (!!!) to get into the Red Rose Taverne, maybe this Grey Stuff dip and a spoon can fit the bill for ya? At any rate, we highly recommend.

Maurice’s Treats is also serving a themed drink with the Red Rose Lemonade Freeze. Honestly, though, Heather doesn’t give it a thumbs up. Now, it IS pretty, and we totally get the red rose tie-in.

But after one sip, Heather reports that she was done. Unlike the Strawberry Rose Dipping Sauce with it’s hint of rose flavor, the Red Rose Lemonade Freeze is — seriously — straight-up floral. It reminded Heather of the rose-scented lotion that her grandmother wore. But, hey, if you’re thinking “I always wanted to know what that rose lotion tastes like,” then go to town ;) ! Otherwise, it’s a hard pass. Go with the Boysen Apple Freeze instead.

So as to not leave you with a thorny taste in your mouth, here’s a friendly tip: you can also find Mrs. Potts Krispie Treats here! No fancy flavorings, just that classic krispie treat with Mrs. Potts gracing the sweet coating.

We know, we know: Beauty and the Beast tie-ins are, like, everywhere du jour. But for the most part, that’s a good thing, since basically that means more variety. Plus it’s high time that that Disneyland-ers are getting to experience their own version of The Grey Stuff first-hand. As far as we’re concerned, Maurice can keep on creating all the limited-time treats he wants!

Au revoir — until the next Beauty and the Beast-themed treat pops up ;) — from Fantasy Faire!
