Following the recommendation from the Association of Zoos and Aquariums’ Species Survival Plan, our team began about three years of planning for these cubs. Because there are fewer than 500 Sumatran tigers left in the wild, it’s important that we manage a population within AZA-accredited institutions to ensure they don’t become extinct in the wild.
