Disney4me
It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas at Walt Disney World, and while some of you might not be ready, we don’t hate it! Because when it’s the holiday season at Disney World, it’s also holiday snack season. Tree in the Magic Kingdom Hub One of our favorite things to do this time of year is check out the massive, gorgeous gingerbread displays that can be found around the resort. This year, Disney’s Contemporary Resort is first out of the gate with its iconic gingerbread castle, featuring Cinderella, Prince Charming, and the Fairy Godmother for the second year in a row. 2018 Contemporary Resort Gingerbread House The Cinderella Castle Gingerbread Display is located in the Grand Canyon Concourse on the fourth floor of the Contemporary Resort. And remember that you don’t need to be a hotel guest to check out this pastry artistry. It’s just a hop, skip, and a Monorail ride from the Magic Kingdom, and we expect the display will remain up through early January. So there’s lots of time to pop in for a peek! 2018 Contemporary Resort Gingerbread House The display is a contemporary design, appropriately enough, and features a white background that mimics Mary Blair’s famous works (as well as a nod to her “it’s a small world” design). The castle is constructed from rich brown gingerbread with vibrant blue roofs. 2018 Contemporary Resort Gingerbread House And as is often the case with specialty displays around Walt Disney World resort, this one has some Hidden Mickeys, if you take a minute to spot them! 2018 Contemporary Resort Gingerbread House But this isn’t just a static display! The clock in the upper left corner of the background toggles back and forth, adding a fun little movement. And it’s hard to tell with the (gorgeous Florida sun) backlighting, but the are white rope lights all along the top of the display, which will set it off nicely when the sky beyond is dark. Contemporary Resort Gingerbread Display And while the design here is fairly linear and simplistic (compared the the gingerbread house at the Grand Floridian and the gingerbread carousel at the Beach Club!), there are still plenty of special details to explore. Contemporary Resort Gingerbread Display But who fancies a castle without a princess? Cinderella and Prince Charming hold court in front of the Castle, and their faces are packed with cutesy charm. 2018 Contemporary Resort Gingerbread House They’re made of edible materials as well, which makes their creation that much more impressive! Cinderella and Prince Charming And of course, the woman who made it all possible: the Fairy Godmother. She’s posed with wand at the ready, just in case any visiting guests need a pumpkin coach right away. 2018 Contemporary Resort Gingerbread House In addition to Cinderella’s Castle, you’ll find on display her famous glass slipper. Contemporary Resort Gingerbread Display — Cinderella’s Glass Slipper This is the slipper previously on display in Princess Fairytale Hall in the Magic Kingdom, and it’s just as lovely as ever. Contemporary Resort Gingerbread Display — Cinderella’s Glass Slipper One might assume this is a subtle hint to the ladies and gents still shopping for Christmas gifts for their own personal princesses. Contemporary Resort Gingerbread Display — Cinderella’s Glass Slipper Of course, what’s a Disney World gingerbread display without some fantastic holiday-appropriate snacks? Thankfully there’s a Cinderella Castle Gingerbread Snack Stand for that. Contemporary Resort Gingerbread Snack Stand The stand is typically open from 10AM to 10PM, affording guests plenty of opportunities to grab the snacks of their holiday dreams. At the check-out, guests can find Gingerbread Popcorn (as well as some merchandise we’ll take a closer look at in a bit!). Cinderella Castle Gingerbread Snack Stand Popcorn Royal Pumpkin Loaf is absolutely required snacking this time of year. That’s by royal decree; we’re not making it up. Royal Pumpkin Loaf It comes in its own little paper loaf pan and could potentially travel well if you’re looking for edible souvenirs. Royal Pumpkin Loaf No Sugar Added Tea Cookies are packaged with a few varieties in the bag, including a checkerboard cookie and a hazelnut cookie. No Sugar Added Tea Cookies No Sugar Added Tea Cookies Linzer Cookies have a distinctive look, with the main mouse taking center stage! Linzer Cookies Linzer Cookies We also love the bright green color of the Christmas Tree Butter Cookies. So festive! Gingerbread Boy Gingerbread Boy Gingerbread Shingles are a fun souvenir and not something you’ll find much in the non-Disney world. (You can also pick up Shingles at the Grand Floridian!) Gingerbread Shingle The Contemporary’s Gingerbread Shingles feature the silhouette of Cinderella’s glass slipper, making this a one-of-a-kind treat that you really can’t leave without. Gingerbread Shingle Chocolate Peppermint Cookies combine a rich chocolate cookie base with tons of crunchy peppermint bits for texture and that quintessential Christmas flavor. Chocolate Peppermint Cookie Chocolate Peppermint Cookie If you’re in the mood for cake, Cinderella’s Cake Pop delivers with its light blue sugar coating and white chocolate Cinderella decal. Cinderella Cake Pop Cinderella Cake Pop But if you need a little magic, pick up the Bibbidi Bobbidi Bundt Cake. (Yup, sign spells it wrong, but the spirit is still there!) Bibbidi Bobbidi Bundt Cake These cakes come packaged for easy transport, so while we wouldn’t recommend jamming it into your checked luggage, it might be possible to carry it onto a flight, should you want to do so. Bibbidi Bobbidi Bundt Cake The cake itself is sort of pumpkin-shaped and covered in golden icing. Definitely a unique treat, which is what we love about these resort gingerbread displays — there’s always something special to serve as an edible reminder of the fun! Bibbidi Bobbidi Bundt Cake The snack stand also features two seasonal gelato options — Gingerbread and Candy Cane — as well as two frozen drink options — Frozen Hot Chocolate and Frozen Apple Cider. Candy Cane Gelato, Frozen Hot Chocolate, and Frozen Apple Cider Gelato is pre-packaged, and you can grab it yourself before heading to the register. Gingerbread Gelato Gingerbread and Candy Cane Gelato The Frozen Hot Chocolate and Frozen Apple Cider are pre-mixed and swirling behind the counter. Frozen Hot Chocolate and Frozen Apple Cider You can see our review of these from last year here! Frozen Hot Chocolate and Frozen Apple Cider But of all the edible delights you’ll find at the Cinderella Castle Gingerbread Display, none is more fabulous than this: a White Chocolate Cinderella. White Chocolate Cinderella Yup, she’s edible. But you’ll have to summon some serious grit to bite off a princess’ head. In truth, she looks more like a figurine made for display than a sweet made for eating. And we think she’s perfect either way! White Chocolate Cinderella If you’re also on the look-out for resort-specific souvenirs to commemorate the 2018 holiday season, you’ll find some great choices here! This limited edition pin is designed to resemble a snow globe, and the snowflake confetti inside really shimmies around when you shake it!
