Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend is off and *ahem* running, and official banana sponsor Chiquita will be supporting runners and doing a little something for the planet at the same time!

That’s because Chiquita-branded waste bins will be placed in the runDisney finish line at race events for the purpose of collecting discarded banana peels.

Chiquita expects up to 14 tons of peels to be recycled during the entire race season. Those peels will be converted into electricity and fertilizer, thus diverting those 28,000 pounds of peels from landfills!

We’d like to divert the bananas themselves as well. Directly into ‘Ohana Bread Pudding.

Big thumbs up to Chiquita and Disney for devising a creative way to recycle all those peels! And big love to the runDisney athletes this weekend!
