Disney4me
With the announcement of the May 31st opening date for Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge in Disneyland (Galaxy’s Edge in Disney World’s Hollywood Studios will follow on August 29th), it was realized that the new land would have an opening process like no other. ©Disney from @DisneyParks on Twitter In regards to Galaxy’s Edge in Disneyland specifically, it was announced that in the opening days — from May 31 – June 23, 2019 — reservations will be required to visit Galaxy’s Edge. (Information on how to make a reservation will be available at a later date, according to the Disneyland website. However, it has already been confirmed that guests with reservations in one of the three Disneyland Resort hotels will receive a reservation time.) This morning, The Orange County Register has reported new insights into the logistics of crowd management for the highly anticipated land, with quotes from Disneyland Vice President Kris Theiler. No Standby Access for Entering Galaxy’s Edge In addition to noting that “There will be no standby access to the land and we want to make sure that that’s clear for guests,” Theiler also stated: “We’re not going to have a standby line. So it will be limited solely to those guests that have reservations.” Black Spire Outpost on Batuu ©Disney/Lucasfilm Time Limits Within the Land Additionally, Disneyland will have restrictions on the amount of time guests can spend in the land. According to the article Theiler stated: “We will be giving guests a window of time, but we’re still working through what that looks like and the duration for that. We’ll be working hard to ensure that guests have enough time in the land to see all the great things and experience the attraction. We know guests might want to stay in there all day, but we’ve got a whole big group that wants to get in there. We’re just trying to balance all those things and really deliver the right solution for our guests.” And once the initial reservations are no longer required after June 23rd? The OC Register also reports that: “Disneyland is developing a virtual queue system for Galaxy’s Edge that will allow visitors to wander around Disneyland while waiting to enter the new Star Wars land.” The system will issue a “boarding pass” providing access to Galaxy’s Edge as the land empties (as opposed to a specific reserved time). Also, “Beginning June 24, there will no longer be any restrictions on how long visitors can stay in Galaxy’s Edge. While entry to Galaxy’s Edge will be controlled, visitors will be able to leave through any of the land’s three entry points.” Queue Logistics In addition to the information above, micechat.com is reporting logistics for maintaining guest comfort level while waiting in long lines for the Millennium Falcon: Smuggler Run attraction. (Note that Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance will have its own Phase Two opening in the park.) In addition to snack and vending options being available for lengthy attraction queues, a system will also be put into place allowing guests to leave the line for a restroom visit for a time without losing their spot. “Atmosphere entertainment” will also factor into the lines. Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run ©Disney Parks Lines are, of course, anticipated for the shops as well, and MiceChat reports that “Switchback lines will be implemented as necessary for the lightsaber and droid shops as well as the Cantina. Overflow switchbacks will also be used as needed for the Millennium Falcon attraction.” And that’s the latest on Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge! Remember, the information in this post primarily pertains to Disneyland; however, it’s likely that — even without the same reservation requirements — the development of similar measures is in progress for Galaxy’s Edge in Disney’s Hollywood Studios, as well.
