We’ve seen all kinds of weather conditions in Disney World!

Rainy Day in Hollywood Studios

From extreme heat to surprising cold to hurricane season, we feel like we’ve seen it all. And since Disney World is located in hurricane country, the parks get an excessive amount of rain throughout the year. Because of that, we’ve seen some pretty wild flooding in Disney World, and we’re here to talk about it!

Hollywood Studios Gift Shop Floods

One of the strangest floods we’ve seen was back in 2022 in Hollywood Studios. In June, right in the middle of the stormy summer weather, we stopped by Celebrity 5&10 to find the floor completely flooded. Cast Members were having to block off the area with cones and attempt to push the water back out the door.

The flooding definitely made it difficult to do your shopping! And it took quite a while to get all the water out while it continued to downpour outside.

Just beware if you’re visiting Hollywood Studios during a thunderstorm!

Hurricane Ian

Back in September 2022, Hurricane Ian hit Central Florida HARD, and in the process, it brought heavy rains and flooding. Some travelers were stuck on Disney World property during the storm, and videos of the storm were seen all over social media.

Resort parking lots were filled up with water as tree branches whipped around in the wind. Some intense flooding at the Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin Hotels was shared in a video by WESH 2 Orlando. Flash flood warnings were even issued for the counties surrounding the property.

Pools in the Middle of the Walkway

Like we mentioned, those rainstorms in Disney World can be INTENSE. And since some parts of the walkways in the parks are lower than others, it’s sometimes easy for water to pool in the middle of the path. This was the case during a thunderstorm at Hollywood Studios in March 2022.

We’ve seen similar instances of flooding in front of Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Cafe in Magic Kingdom. Those puddles can get ankle- or calf-deep, so watch out and come prepared with proper footwear and ponchos!

So if you’re heading to Disney World between April and October, be prepared for some possible flash flooding that comes with hurricane season. We’ll make sure to keep you updated anytime that flood warnings are issued, so that you can stay safe during your vacation!
