Losing something important to you is one of the worst feelings in the world.

Losing an item here could be stressful

But what if you lose it in a crowded place like Disney World? People lose a lot of items in Disney World, and you can go to the lost and found to fill out a form to report your item missing. But what if you lose your item on the Monorail? Don’t worry, we know what to do!

Today while we were waiting for the Monorail, we overheard a situation going on. A dad and daughter were waiting for the Monorail to return because she had forgotten her phone on board.

Monorail Lines

They had notified the attendant at the Monorail station who had them wait until the same Monorail returned (since they go in a circle). When the Monorail arrived, they spoke with the driver who had pulled her phone from one of the cars!

We’re assuming that the Cast Member at the gate contacted the Monorail driver to ask them to look for the phone at their next stop and pull it aside so it could be kept safe. Or, it’s possible the driver saw it when scanning the car themselves.

So if you forget something on the monorail, don’t panic just yet! Contact a Cast Member at the station and tell them what’s going on as soon as you remember where you left the item. Cast Members will do all they can to connect you with your lost item.

The Disney World Monorail

It’s a very normal thing to lose something in Disney World — don’t panic if it happens to you! Our reporters are in the parks all the time and they’ve all had their fair share of lost items.

Once, a reporter accidentally threw away her wallet after she’d set it on a tray for lunch! Another time, a reporter left her wallet at a Joffrey’s kiosk and didn’t realize it was missing for FOUR HOURS. Other reporters have lost phones, wallets, and accessories on rides.

If you lose anything anywhere in the parks, you should always start by immediately going back to the place where you think you lost the item. Do not pass go, do not collect $200, head STRAIGHT back to see if the item is still there. Often, Cast Members in the area will hold on to lost items for a while before sending them on to Guest Relations or Lost and Found, and this is the easiest time to get your item back. (As was the case for the family who lost a phone on the Monorail.)

If it’s been a couple of hours or if the Cast Members haven’t seen your lost item, find the nearest Guest Experience Team location (they usually have a blue umbrella over them) or visit the entrance of any park to find the main Guest Relations location.

Guest Relations

When one of our reporters lost her wallet, a Cast Member told her to visit the Guest Experiences desk ASAP. It had already been lost for about 4 hours, but the Cast Members at that location still had her wallet and were able to return it to her before they sent it on to Lost and Found.

We’ve mentioned a couple of times that you’ll want to try to get to your lost item before it’s sent to Lost and Found. That’s because Disney World’s Lost and Found is MASSIVE. As you might expect, with so many people in the parks and hotels, a lot of things get lost every single day. There is an extensive system that documents all of the lost items, but it can take days for your item to be cataloged and even longer for it to be returned to you.

Lost and found

If you don’t make it to Guest Experiences in time and your item is sent to Lost and Found, all hope is not lost. Your first step is to fill out an online form to let Disney World know what you’re missing. They’ll keep you updated with text messages as Cast Members search for your item, and if they are able to locate that item, Disney will usually mail it back to you free of charge.

As always, stay tuned to DFB for all the latest Disney World tips and tricks!
