The One Thing You MUST Eat in Hong Kong Disneyland

We can’t tell you how thrilled we’ve been to check out Hong Kong Disneyland.

Being in Arendelle has been AMAZING

The experience has been SO magical, especially now that we’ve had a chance to see World of Frozen, meet the Frozen characters, and ride Wandering Oaken’s Sliding Sleighs and Frozen Ever After. But we also had a chance to eat some food available at Hong Kong Disneyland, and there was one restaurant that stood out to us. In fact, we would make the trip to Hong Kong ALL OVER AGAIN to eat there.

We had a special opportunity to eat at the Crystal Lotus at the Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel. Y’all — we are STILL thinking about that food. This restaurant has won awards, and now we know why. Now, we do have to mention our meal may look a little different, as we were invited to a special Crystal Lotus dinner by Hong Kong Disneyland Resort. That said, several of the items we tried are on the regular menu, including the Disney Friends Dim Sum, the Double-boiled Chicken Broth, and the Crispy De-boned Short Rib.

OK, look at this Disney Friends Dim Sum. Excuse us, but this might be the MOST FUN FOOD we’ve ever eaten. These are dim sum buns that look like Disney and Pixar characters. We CAN’T EVEN. This is what the Dim Sum looks like. How adorable are these?

Obviously, this wins EVERYTHING just on looks alone. So we got to try Piglet, Eeyore, and Donald. The Piglet Seafood and Chicken Bun was our favorite — the breading was so light and fluffy with an inside that was cooked to perfection without being rubbery. The seafood in it was shrimp.

Piglet!

The Eeyore Dim Sum had Red Bean Puree in it, which gave it an interesting texture. It was a little on the sweet side with the same breading.

The Donald Dim Sum had a green bean paste inside, which meant the flavor was more herbaceous, although it also had some sweetness. We weren’t big fans of this one, though (sorry, Donald), because it gave us baby food vibes. Was this the best Dim Sum we’ve ever had? Probably not. Was it the most fun? DEFINITELY. But one important note: the Disney Friends Dim Sum is available daily for lunch, but it must be ordered at least 24 hours prior to your visit.

We also had the Honey-glazed Iberico Barbecue Pork, which wowed us. The pork belly was wonderfully fatty with a sweet glaze. We only wish we had more than two pieces, but hey, we had to save room for more, so maybe it was for the best.

We never expected to get excited about something like chicken broth, but the Double-Boiled Chicken Broth with Conpoy and Maitake Mushrooms was UH-MAZING. It was so heartwarming, like something that soothes the soul when you eat it. We liked how savory it was, too; you mostly get a chicken broth flavor, but it has way more depth than just your regular old chicken broth.

Remember how we said this restaurant has won awards? Well, the award was for the Crispy De-Boned Short Ribs in Sichuan Sauce, and we now understand why. The pastry is so flaky and crispy. The ribs just fell apart with incredibly tender meat. Y’all — we just used our chopsticks with it because that’s all you need. The spice is very subtle. We wish we weren’t trying to be all professional here because we wanted to pick up the bowl and lick it. This dish is available on the regular menu, and we highly recommend giving it a try.

The Braised Crab Claw was visually more interesting than everything else (except for maybe the Dim Sum). But this was our least favorite thing we ate. The flavor was okay as a salty crab, but it seemed overcooked. The texture was rubbery when biting into it. However, the sweet-and-sour sauce on the side added a nice touch.

However, the Braised Vegetable Dumplings impressed us. This was SO different, but we loved everything about it. The broth was delicious, and the dumplings were cooked to be soft but were still firm enough to hold their shape. These aren’t cooked in a typical dumpling wrapper but in a thin egg-based wrapper. The vegetables were also cooked well — they were soft but not mushy. This had such a unique look and flavor profile versus a typical dumpling.

For dessert, we had the Sago Cream with Pomelo, and if you told us we were going to eat what is basically orange soup, we would have laughed at you. But here we are, and we are shocked at how sweet and creamy it was. The fruit bits, too, added some nice texture. It’s also served with fruit on the side for dipping, but we thought the “soup” was a little too thin for dipping. But, yeah, color us surprised.

Overall, most of what we had pretty much knocked our socks off, and we loved just how unique some of these foods really are. We might be a tad bit disappointed when we return to Disney World, though, and can’t get Dim Sum shaped like Disney characters (ahem…Disney World, GET ON THAT). In the meantime, we’re always on the lookout for the latest Disney news, so stay tuned for more.
