REVIEW: We Have To WARN You About Disney’s Newest Hot Dog

Happy Lunar New Year! Yes, we know we’re a few days late, but Disney is still celebrating, and so are we!

Lunar New Year Decorations at the Grand Californian Hotel

Over in Disneyland, the Lunar New Year is a BIG deal. There’s the whole Lunar New Year Festival in Disney California Adventure plus Disney’s Grand Californian Resort got in on the Year of the Dragon celebration by putting an ENTIRE dragon inside its lobby. But you’ll also find a Lunar New Year-themed snack at the hotel, and it’s bringing a bit of heat!

Let’s head on over to GCH Craftsman Grill. This restaurant occasionally puts out a special hot dog for a limited time. Well, this month’s hot dog is the Asian Bao Hot Dog in honor of the Lunar New Year.

It’s a grilled all-beef hot dog in bao buns with sriracha cucumber slaw and dan dan BBQ sauce finished with toasted sesame seeds and served with a side of French fries.

One thing we noticed immediately with this hot dog is that it packs some heat! It starts with a sweet flavor, but you get some spiciness from the BBQ sauce. But that heat goes up a notch when you add the sriracha cucumber slaw.

At first, you just get that refreshing cool cucumber flavor, but then the spicy kicks in. So yeah, we’ll warn you, this one is a bit hot. We didn’t think it was TOO hot, but if you’re spice-averse, you might want to stay away.

The bao buns were served warm and were soft and doughy with a bit of sweetness, just what a bao should be. The fries were thin and crispy with a black pepper seasoning (yes, we approve).
