Should We Be Worried About Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort Expansion?

At this point, it’s hardly a secret that Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort is getting some new Disney Vacation Club villas.

Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort

These new DVC villas will be housed in a brand NEW building at the Polynesian Village Resort, and we’ve been carefully watching the construction to get an idea of what the final project will look like. However, there has been some concern that the Villas don’t look the way people expect…but we want you to hear us out.

Right now, the villas are under construction, and they look pretty industrial and gray. We know that can be disappointing, especially when you consider the rest of the awesome theming at the Polynesian Village Resort. We’ve heard from lots of fans who are worried this building will be an eyesore!

HOWEVER, last time we checked, we noticed that some paint was already going up on some of the buildings and it was a more light brown natural color, which fits the Polynesian Village Reosrt’s vibe.

Painted!

Well, when we checked recently, even MORE of the new building was painted that natural color. So if you were worried that Disney was going to just leave those grayish walls up, that’s not what’s happening.

More painting!

We also can’t get over the full SCOPE of the project. This construction site and the building are far larger than we even initially thought it would be. That is a LOT more rooms for Disney World hotel guests.

It’s HUGE

For comparison, we’re going to show you the concept art. This is what the final product will look like. The angled roofs, wood tones, and greenery surrounding the building make it fit in pretty well with the rest of the resort. We’ve just got to keep this final image in mind and ignore the big, gray block that’s currently in its place!

Y’all — it’s starting to look a lot closer to that original art. Keep in mind that none of the foliage in the concept art has been planted yet — that will come later. That will also help transform this new building into something worthy of the Polynesian.

Starting to look like the concept art

So although you might be a little worried that this new building will NOT fit in well, we’ll have to wait and make our final judgement when it’s finished! It’s expected to open by the end of this year.

There’s still a lot to do

Interestingly enough, a lot of the inspiration for this building, at least according to Imagineers, has come from early concepts of the Polynesian Village Resort. The idea is that they want to honor the past while continuing to work with the existing resort theme. We trust the Imagineers — they know what they’re doing!

Don’t worry — it’s coming along!

We’ll continue to keep an eye on the construction progress at the site and keep you updated, so stay tuned to DFB for more.
