Disney4me
Some big changes could be coming to Disneyland Resort. Pixar Pier at Disney California Adventure And we’re not even talking about the changes that are already underway, including construction on a new ride, Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, and the update to Disneyland’s Haunted Mansion queue. No, we’re talking about the Disneyland Forward initiative, which could bring entire new LANDS to Disneyland Resort. That’s why March 11th is a very important day for the proposed Disneyland expansion. On March 11th, the City of Anaheim Planning Commission is having a meeting to look over all the documents Disney has submitted regarding DisneylandForward and the expansion plans for Disneyland. Now, granted, Disneyland can’t actually EXPAND its acreage because it’s in the middle of a city, but Disney’s proposed plan would see parts of the 500-acre Disneyland property get re-zoned so Disney can use those areas for new rides, restaurants, lands, etc. Disneyland The proposed plan would put $1.9 billion into expanding Disneyland’s hotels, shopping, parking, dining, and theme parks. According to Josh D’Amaro, Disney Parks, Experiences, and Products Chairman, “We’ve got so much space to play with. Disneyland, for example, Walt’s original theme park, we still have enough room to build another Disneyland there if we choose to do that.” Disneyland Disney has provided the City’s planning commission with all the necessary documents ahead of the March 11th meeting, including an Environmental Impact study, the company’s general plan, the proposed development agreement, a Magic Way supplemental traffic analysis, and more. Donald’s digs in Toontown The commission is expected to vote on the proposed plan at the meeting, so we might ultimately know if Disneyland will be moving forward with the expansion. The company has already thrown out many ideas for additional lands and rides, pointing to its upcoming new lands in Tokyo Disneyland as an example, including Tangled and Peter Pan-themed lands. The company has also opened new lands devoted to Frozen and Zootopia in its international parks. World of Frozen in Hong Kong Disneyland Disney CEO Bob Iger has also mentioned creating an Avatar-themed land, similar to the one in Disney’s Animal Kingdom in Florida, for Disneyland. We’ll be paying close attention to what happens on March 11th (fingers crossed for Disneyland!) and let you know what is ultimately decided.
