Disney4me
Are these new Marvel-themed foods super? Pym Test Kitchen On a recent trip to Disneyland, we popped into Pym’s Test Kitchen – the Avengers Campus-based eatery themed around the titular character from the Ant-Man films known for interesting snacks with some wild proportions – to try out the two latest dishes on the menu: The Reactor Melt and the Pepper Particle Pasta. Disney’s describes Pym’s Test Kitchen as an “old lab facility-turned-quick-service restaurant features a seating area and bar amidst décor that incorporates remnants of ongoing experiments—gigantic soda cans, humungous condiment bottles and massive cellphones recycled into menu boards.” Pym’s Test Kitchen Reactor Melt – $14.69 First up, we tried the Reactor Melt. This dish is a Garlic Pesto Toasted Sourdough with Mozzarella, Basil and Tomato, served with Potato Bites, and provides a pretty good value for its price point. Reactor Melt For the most part, we enjoyed it, with some caveats. The bread was nicely toasted with a good crunch, yet didn’t have a burnt flavor, instead featuring a garlic and pesto aftertaste. The tomato and basil both added fresh flavors that complemented the rest of the sandwich, however they overpowered the mozzarella bit. In fact, we’d say that the closest thing thing to complaint about the sandwich we have is that there could have been more cheese overall. The potato tots on the side were warm and crispy, however we found them a bit oily and greasy, to the point that we couldn’t eat too many. We’d definitely recommend the Reactor Melt if you’re craving an entrée on the lighter side, especially if you enjoy grilled cheese. That said, probably avoid if you’re not a fan of garlic and pesto flavors. Pepper Particle Pasta – $14.49 Next, we gave the Pepper Particle Pasta a try. Made up of Campanelli Pasta topped with Grilled Chicken, Spicy Tomato Cream Sauce, Chimichurri and Parmesan, this pasta dish definitely gives bang for your buck as far as portion-size is concerned. Pepper Particle Pasta We really like this dish. The chicken was grilled nicely and had a fresh herby flavor. The sauce had a light texture for a cream sauce, with a creamy peppery flavor featuring hints of tomato. The chimichurri was slightly spicy, but refreshing at the same time balanced by the light, cheesy flavor of the parmesan. Overall, we’d say this was a great dish. There was a lot of chicken and a generous pasta portion. All of the flavors came together to make a spicy, cheesy, and creamy dish. We’d definitely recommend to anyone looking for a solid pasta offering at California Adventure. That said, maybe avoid if you’re not a fan of spicy or creamy flavors. Gotta have that Marvel Easter Egg Overall, we really enjoyed both of these new offerings at Pym’s Test Kitchen, and look forward to trying both again next time we’re having a bite in that corner of the Happiest Place on Earth.
