Disney4me
Alright, I want to start off by saying that you don’t need to panic or violently cross off riding Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind on your EPCOT list. While I did have to call 911 on multiple occasions while working at Disney World, that is truly the exception. Bad things can still happen at Disney World, and unfortunately, something bad will likely happen every day at Disney World. However, that doesn’t mean you should make any drastic changes. Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind There are lots and lots of moving parts at Disney World, with lots and lots of people experiencing all those moving parts. It is hot, people are exhausted, and things happen. It may be the “Most Magical Place on Earth,” but less-than-magical things can still happen. Being prepared and listening to your body can help prevent some less-than-magical things but Cast Members (and paramedics) are also there to help. I was fortunate to be able to work at Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind in EPCOT. I loved the time I spent as an Xandarian Ambassador and getting to see riders experience this attraction. This ride is definitely a thrill ride, and while it didn’t have big drops or upside-down maneuvers, it is still exerting some pretty intense forces on your body. While the vast majority of people absolutely loved the attraction and were able to walk right off, some people’s bodies did not react quite as well to saving the galaxy. We did deal with a fair amount of people getting sick both on the ride and after getting off. Most people were able to recover quickly after getting some water and taking a seat. However, we did have to get assistance from paramedics in some instances. Again, I want to reiterate that getting paramedics involved was a pretty rare occurrence. However, if you ever feel like you need medical assistance, talk to the nearest Cast Member or call 911 and ask to be transferred to Reedy Creek. Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind First of all, know and respect your body’s limitations. If you have a history of motion sickness or know you don’t do well on certain rides, be kind to your body and respect those boundaries. It can be hard when you really want to experience a ride, but you know your body would not be happy with it. Just know that skipping a ride that you know you wouldn’t do well will allow you to experience rides that you would likely enjoy better. Feel free to talk to Cast Members at the front of the attraction and they can help with describing the ride in more detail. Keep in mind that they won’t be able to definitively tell you whether you can ride or not, but they can provide additional insight. For instance, if there are certain ride elements you can’t do (big drops, upside down, etc.) they can confirm whether you will experience that element on the ride. Cosmic Rewind Queue As well, while you are in the parks make sure you are staying hydrated and eating regular meals. Make sure you are taking breaks and listening to how your body is doing. You will have so much more fun on the rides if you are not dehydrated or running on two cups of coffee and a beer. Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind doesn’t have any huge drops or go upside down, but the movements in the relatively dark room can cause your body to feel some wonky effects. Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind Pre-Show Now if you do end up feeling not so great while riding Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind, don’t feel bad or embarrassed. The ride is unique, and it puts some odd forces onto your body. The unloading area has some benches you can take a seat on, and you can also ask a Cast Member for a bag if you are feeling sick. Don’t feel like you need to rush out of the attraction and take some time if you need it. There is also an elevator you can use to exit if you don’t feel like you can walk up and down a bunch of stairs. If you really aren’t feeling great, Cast Members can call for paramedics to come and check you out. Cast Members usually don’t have training on medical issues beyond ways to help the guest until additional help can arrive, so if you are worried about your health, they can call for additional help. Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind Beyond feeling sick after riding an attraction, I have also seen people trip while entering or exiting the ride vehicle. As well as tripping in queues or while walking around in the park. My biggest request is to be aware of your surroundings and where you are going. Also make sure you are focusing on directions from Cast Members and putting away distractions. If you need some extra time getting on or off of an attraction, you can also let a Cast Member know.
