There Are NEW Nachos in Disney World, and They’re 100x Better than Pecos Bill

Let me tell you a little secret about Disney World food…Animal Kingdom has some of the best!

Disney’s Animal Kingdom

This park often gets overlooked because of the plethora of iconic snacks at Magic Kingdom and the international treats at EPCOT, but Animal Kingdom has some absolute BANGERS. There are so many snack stands throughout the park with eats that we keep coming back for again and again, so when one of those spots introduced a new offering, you know I had to stop by and try it!

During my last visit to Animal Kingdom, I headed to The Smiling Crocodile to try out the brand-new Barbacoa Nachos! They’re $9.99 and come topped with barbacoa beef, queso, lime crema, and pico de gallo. Those toppings are served on a bed of tri-colored chips.

This new entree is a pretty decent portion, probably shareable as a snack or big enough to be a meal for one person. The first thing I noticed is that there’s a LOT of queso on top — and I’m certainly not complaining about that! You get a hefty amount of toppings and the pico is served up in a cup on the side.

So colorful!

The barbacoa beef is tender and savory, and there’s a lot of it. Some pieces were kind of fatty, but that’s probably to be expected with how big the portion size is. The queso was creamy and thick, with a distinct cheesy flavor — it reminded me a lot of the queso from Pecos Bill Tall Tale Inn & Cafe, so it might be the same.

The pico de gallo was a little bit watery, but had a small kick to it. If you want a hint of spice, you could spread this on top of your nachos.

They come with a salsa

These nachos were quite delicious, and I would totally order them again! (Seriously, SO much better than the ones I’ve had at Pecos Bill in Magic Kingdom!) The crema was probably my favorite part, because it brightened everything up and added hints of lime. However, my one complaint is that all the toppings go on top of the chips, so the top layer of chips get a little bit soggy, and the bottom layer don’t have any toppings on them at all.

If you could find a way to mix up your nachos before you dig in, that might fix the issue.

So there you go — a new entree to check out in Animal Kingdom! Keep in mind that The Smiling Crocodile really only operates during lunchtime/snack hours on Discovery Island so you’ll want to head here midday if you plan to grab the nachos.
