Disney4me
Okay, Disney World, WHAT is going on? Animal Kingdom It’s normal for menus in Disney World to change often, because almost EVERYTHING changes on the daily. But recently, Disney has been CHANGING some of our favorite snacks — the blueberry Mickey waffles in Hollywood Studios, the waffles at Sleepy Hollow in Magic Kingdom, BUT NOW our favorite corn has changed, too! The Harambe Fruit Market in Animal Kingdom isn’t known for too much, as they really just have fruit, which you can get at any grocery store. The real hit here was the Grilled Corn on the Cob with African Spices. Harambe Fruit Market This was a tasty, unique treat that we highly recommended. Plus, hey — healthy in Disney World is a pretty big win! However, we have terrible news…THE CORN HAS CHANGED. Menu Previously, the corn could be ordered with or without the spices OR the butter, since it was grilled right there in front of you. Now? The grill is gone entirely and the corn is prepared off-site, brought in, and kept in a warming bag before being given out. The Corn on the Cob BEFORE The corn still tastes fine, but it’s a major downgrade from what it used to be. Plus, that means it’s not customizable anymore, which is also a huge bummer. Now that it’s no longer fresh, you lose some of the juiciness and flavor from that dunk in butter when it’s served to you wrapped in foil after it has been sitting for a while. The spices are there, though — they aren’t as visible because they have broken down in the butter and been soaked into the corn. This is still a good snack when you want something savory instead of sweet — and something different from French fries or house-made chips, but we’re sad it’s not as good as it used to be. The Corn NOW While we were in the area, though, we decided to try out more of the offerings this stand has to offer, including the packaged Watermelon for $3.99. This was a huge win in our book because not only is it a rare find to find it packaged, which is much easier to carry around, but it was so fresh and sweet! If you’re tired of processed foods and need something light and fresh, come grab this! Amazing Watermelon! The packaged Strawberries for $3.99 on the other hand, while we appreciated they were packaged too, they didn’t fare well in the heat. The ripe one was VERY sour, almost like sour candy, while the mushy ones were sweet. …not so amazing Strawberries The Lay’s Chips were just what you’d expect (not necessarily a bad thing, but there are many other exciting snacks in the park). Orange and Chips Overall, is this a spot that you can’t miss? Unfortunately since the corn is now mediocre, this is an easily skippable spot, unless you’re looking for some meh corn or delicious watermelon. Looking for more of our recent reviews?
