We all love Disney World, right?!

I mean, who can get over all the magic, the nostalgia, and the snacks? Seriously though, we love going to visit, but when we talk about planning for our next trip, there’s one Disney World rule that can definitely put a wrench into our plans, and it’s one we wish Disney World would finally get rid of. Let’s talk about it!

What’s that rule that Disney World has been sticking to that’s really been messing up our plans for the last few years? We’re talking about park pass reservations for Annual Passholders. Let’s dive right in.

As we said, we’re talking about those park pass reservations we mostly still need to make as Annual Passholders. First off, we get that Disney needs to plan for staffing, product availability, and all the other logistical stuff that makes all the magic happen. But in a post-pandemic world that in some way is still trying to get back to “normal” where we’ve become accustomed to a degree of spontaneity and seamless experiences, park passes feel like that one unnecessary element that everyone just wants to skip.

From a guest perspective, park passes are just another layer of planning that feels rather tedious. Remember the “good ol’ days” when you could just wake up and decide, “Hey, I feel like hitting up Magic Kingdom today,” and you’d just go? Now, you’ve got to decide which park you’re going to in advance, lock it in, and try not to change your mind last minute. It can feel like Disney is saying, “Oh, you want to be spontaneous? Too bad, so sad.”

When it comes to the overall planning process, Disney vacations are already a massive undertaking. We’re talking about booking dining reservations days in advance, grabbing all of your ride and dining reservations, and juggling park pass reservations. It can be a lot. And forget about when you’re trying to manage the stress of trying to coordinate park passes for large groups. You might as well start taking up a side hustle of herding cats.

Also, yes, we recognize that there are Good-to-Go Days where passholders can visit the Disney World theme parks without needing a park pass reservation, but those days are pretty few and far between. It all begs the question, “If you don’t need reservations for some of the days, why would you need them at all?”

So, Disney, if you’re listening (we really hope you are), how about we rethink the need for park pass reservations? It would be wonderful to get back to the freedom to be spontaneous, to wake up and decide our plans for the day without all the extra stress of wondering if we’ll even get into the park.
