The Orlando Business Journal has reported that American Airlines will be ending its year-round nonstop service from Austin-Bergstrom International Airport to Orlando Airport, as well as New Orleans. They’ll also be stopping their seasonal flights from Austin, Texas to Palm Springs, California and Reno, Nevada.

This is the latest move by the airline to reduce its service in Austin, Texas. The reduction in service will begin in October, with the airline saying, “American will continue to offer customers access to our comprehensive global network of more than 350 destinations with one-stop connections. We’re proactively reaching out to impacted customers and apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.”

While one-stop connections can be easy to manage, they quickly can turn into a nightmare if your original flight is delayed and takes off too late, causing you to miss your connection. American Airlines is the fifth largest airline at Orlando International Airport, with 5.68 million passengers in 2023, so it’s nearly guaranteed this change is going to impact a lot of travelers. Thanks to the addition of many flights, Visit Orlando has found that “advance domestic and international airline ticket sales into Orlando are up 6.6% from June to August.”

However, Delta, Southwest, and Spirit Airlines all continue to provide nonstop service from Austin to Orlando, so if you’re taking this route soon, this is something to keep in mind!
