When you’re looking for a nice evening out for date night or a special celebration, it’s easy to fall into the same routine restaurants that we hold near and dear. We recently ventured a little further off the beaten path and the experience we had proved there’s more than meets the eye at some of Disney World’s hotel dining experiences if you’re willing to search for it!

At Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort, you’ll find Toledo — Tapas, Steak & Seafood where diners will be treated to a Spanish-inspired cuisine that includes seafood and steak options within this rooftop restaurant. Small plates and House Boards (charcuterie and cheese) are a specialty here and can be seen plated at the open tapas kitchen just to the far side of the restaurant’s dining room.

Toledo check in

As you venture inside, the restaurant’s vaulted ceilings come into focus and the backlit ceiling helps set the tone for the evening. If you happen to time your dinner just right, you could also enjoy views of fireworks shows from the restaurant’s rooftop balcony.

Atmosphere

As you walk up to the restaurant’s entrance it’s hard not to be immediately captivated by the sheer beauty found just beyond the check-in. When you arrive, you’ll be greeted by a Cast Member at the host stand who will check you in for your reservation. There are a few padded benches to sit on while you wait for your table to be prepared.

When your table is ready, you’ll be escorted through the dining room to your table as you pass by a large open bar area…

When the weather is good, you can also take your drinks out on the balcony to look out and enjoy the views!

There’s a lot of Spanish influence here and the multicolored ceiling changes to mimic the change of the sun setting through stained glass just like it does in Toledo, Spain (pretty neat, huh?).

Look at all the pretty colors

It was mind-blowing watching the colors change from deep hues of red to orange, into yellow and even a few deeper shades of blues and purples. The next time you visit, take some time to watch the changes happen!

Menu

There’s a fairly extensive menu here at Toledo that’s made of Tapas or starters to your meal, an option for a Chef’s Signature Dinner for Two, entrees and enhancements, sides…

Dessert menu continued

After browsing the entirety of the menus before us, we were able to gather our meal together and place our order.

Drinks

We felt very inspired by the Spanish touches all around this hotel and the incredible decor so when we spotted the Spanish Margarita on the menu, we immediately felt drawn to it! It’s made of Patrón Silver Tequila, Cardinal Mendoza Angêlus Original Recipe Liqueur, Lime, and Agave which will cost you $17.

Spanish Margarita

Be forewarned though, this gal’s a hefty marg both in size AND in taste! This margarita comes with a beautiful presentation in a wide glass and a half rim of salt giving it a sophisticated vibe. Although you might think “margarita” and order this one thinking it will have a heavy lime taste to it, that couldn’t have been further from our experience. The tequila and agave will be your most prominent flavors in this one while the lime will follow with more of the aftertaste, however, even with its more forward alcoholic flavors it’s not terribly strong as a drink overall — just potent.

Eats

Just as we were sipping on our margarita our entire order started to arrive. We waited just a few moments so we could show off our meal in its entirety. We opted for the Rioja-braised Chorizo as our appetizer, and for our entree we chose the Marinated Grilled Lamb Loin with an extra side of Patatas Bravas.

It was looking pretty tasty to us when we started taking pictures of it! So let’s dig in! We kicked off the food part of our review with our starter first — the Rioja-braised Chorizo. This dish is made with Spanish-style sausage served in Rioja Wine and onions and will cost you $15. It’s also served with a few sides of bread crusts.

Rioja-braised Chorizo

Wow! This was a great way to start off our meal! It’s served to your table very hot so there’s a wooden tray it’s fit into and your server will ask you to use caution and avoid touching the outside of the bowl. The chorizo is almost like a dip with the onions and wine as sauce.

Close up

The bread was crisp but not rock solid to where it wouldn’t crumble when you bit into it. It also tasted like it was buttered or dipped in oil before it was dried to become crispier!

Bread

When we dipped the bread pieces into the chorizo it eventually did start to soften the bread a bit but it had great flavor with the sausage and onions. The rioja wine was on the saltier side which gave it more of a savory feel and we thoroughly enjoyed this one!

Savory and salty

Then it was time to turn our attention to the entree of the evening — the Marinated Grilled Lamb Loin. This fancy dish is served with Potatoes, Salsa Verde, Greens, and Blistered Peppers which will set you back $35.

Marinated Grilled Lamb Loin

Wow, again, the presentation from this restaurant just can’t seem to disappoint when we laid eyes on this dish. The lamb here is the stand out for this entire meal — there we’ve said it. It was cooked at a medium temperature and you could see the juices flowing out of it as it was brought out to the table.

Look how perfectly cooked this meat is!

It’s got a hefty price tag, that’s for sure, but there really is so much meat in this dish! It’s also propped up nicely on blocks of juicy warm potatoes that add that extra bang for your buck with this one. As for the meat though, it was so tender but it held together like a steak would (which kind of caught us off guard) as you might anticipate with lamb it was chewy and delicious and we were tasting that juicy flavor with every bite! If you’re really in for a trip to flavor town, try scooping up some of the tomato-based sauce just underneath it that’s made with Piquillo pepper that wants to taste like chipotle but just not as intense of a spice.

With the sauce

The mixed greens at the top are really more of a garnishment but they were as fresh and crunchy as we had hoped them to be. The blistered peppers really were more like sliced and sautéed jalapeño peppers that we honestly could have taken or left depending on the mood because we just couldn’t get over how flavorful the lamb and potatoes were in this one.

And if that wasn’t enough to convince you to come and try the food here we also ordered a side of Patatas Bravas along with our meal! These fried potato chunks come served in a bowl with TWO sauces drizzled on and underneath them for an additional $8.50.

Patatas Bravas

When they arrived our server asked us to use the accompanying spoon to toss the sauces around within the bowl and mix up the flavors and we have to say, he knew this dish best! Honestly, if we hadn’t already ordered the lamb entree, we’re very confident we could have eaten this as our entire meal and not complained at all! There’s a very big portion served in this “side” so if you’re considering ordering multiple sides, we would caution you to know you could comfortably split these between 2 or 3 people. These potato wedges were crispy and seasoned on the outside but soft and melted like butter once they hit your mouth!

2024-wdw-disneys-coronado-springs-resort

Gotta mix up the sauces

The two sauces were made of a creamy salsa verde that tasted like it had an avocado undertone to it, while the other sauce turned up the heat a bit as a tomato jam with red pepper flakes, Cayenne pepper, and that lovely Piquillo pepper once again blended together to create just enough heat to make you take notice. Here’s our hot tip on this one: if you’re a fan of either or BOTH of the sauces and find yourself craving more with your side, just ask your server for more — they’re happy to oblige and bring out some more for you to mix to your liking.

We asked for more sauces because they’re amazing

We finally made it around to ordering dessert and we have to admit, we were feeling the pressure of what we thought we could handle after such a filling meal. After browsing the dessert menu for a bit, we locked in our choice for the ‘Cafe con Leche’ Choux. This little guy is made with dark chocolate and vanilla whipped cream and you can snag your own for $9.25.

Cafe Con Lech Choux

This little guy was almost too cute to dig into but we’ll be the first to tell you it digs deep to bring out the best of the deep, rich, dark chocolate flavor and it truly delivers! The richness is broken up a bit by the raspberries that accompany the choux on the bed of whipped cream. The salt at the top of the hat decoration makes it all that much more decadent and you’re in for a true treat when you order this as your dessert.

Cross section of the choux

After you break it open, the outer layer of the show that’s more like a spongey dessert bread reveals the inside chocolate mousse hidden within that’s just as rich and creamy as all the other flavors you’ve weathered to get to it.

2024-wdw-disneys-coronado-springs-resort

Creamy

We get why it’s called ‘Cafe con Leche’ though as the inside mousse has a hint of sweet coffee or cafecito taste to the inside mousse which helps it live up to the namesake.

Overall

If the message wasn’t clear about how we’d already been singing the praises of just how great this food tastes, we’re already planning a return visit.

2024-wdw-disneys-coronado-springs-resort

Juicy and tender

Everything we ordered this meal was exceptional which makes us even more excited to return and try out new items in the future!

Nosh or Not?

Whisk your way off into the sunset and beyond the stained glass windows of Toledo if…

  • You’re looking for Disney World food that doesn’t “feel” like Disney World food. If you’re tired of the same old stuff over and over again, this is really a safe place to try out new flavors or work to expand your palette.
  • You’re looking for just the right restaurant for a special evening or date night. We’ve dined at some expensive Disney World restaurants and we don’t always come back raving about them. However, if you’re looking for somewhere to dine that feels very upscale without totally going too far out of budget, this is an excellent option!
  • Rooftop dining just hits differently. You’re at the very top of the Gran Destino Tower at this Disney World hotel, and the views are gorgeous looking through those floor-to-ceiling windows. This is a prime location if you’re looking for a great restaurant to try out but don’t want to feel so confined to a tiny room or claustrophobic.

Feel the wind in the air as it whisks you off somewhere else when…

  • You like the idea of a mature dining experience and a dress code to match it. Casual clothing is accepted at this restaurant so if you’re looking for a robust premium experience, you might do best visiting one of Disney World’s signature dining restaurants.
  • Tapas and Spanish-inspired cuisine just isn’t your thing. That’s quite literally the bulk of the menu here aside from the drinks but we can see not want to make a reservation at a restaurant when there are lounges nearby for that.
  • You’re unsure if you’d get your money’s worth. Ok, let us explain. Yes, we had a wonderful, very filling meal however, we recognize that might not be how everyone chooses to dine at a Disney World restaurant. If you’re really only sticking to an entree and dessert without an appetizer and extra side to get you by, we could see the hesitation on not thinking you could fill up as easily as other restaurants in Disney World.
